Canon 4K Cinema EOS-1D C Digital SLR Camera and L-Series Lenses Enable the Simultaneous Creation of a TV Commercial During a Fashion Photography Shoot
News: Canon 4K Cinema EOS-1D C Digital SLR Camera and L-Series Lenses Enable the Simultaneous Creation of a TV Commercial During a Fashion Photography ShootThe deadline and budget were tight. The client – a leading maker of iconic, affordable jeans – wanted stills and a beautifully photographed film-style location-shoot commercial turned around in one day. Christopher Laughter, a director at the Los Angeles-based creative content production company Snackhaus, knew that the session, depicting a young woman’s quiet contemplations in a rustic cabin, would require a camera capable of providing superb still and motion-image quality, as well as minimal downtime between setups. This meant there would have to be minimal lighting adjustments, versatility, and mobility from take-to-take in order to make the deadline. “Thrilling our clients and exceeding their expectations is something we constantly strive for,” said Laughter. “These days that seems to get harder and harder as budgets get smaller and smaller. Any time we can find ways to increase our creative capabilities and deliver great results for our clients, we’re quick to act.”

News: Canon Cinema EOS C300 Digital Cameras, EOS 5D Mark III Cameras and EOS 7D DSLR Cameras Deliver the Imaging Performance, Convenience, and Compact Size Needed by a Versatile Director“It all comes down to telling great stories,” asserted filmmaker Matt Ogens. “There are different types of stories, and the nature of the story itself may change how I capture it on film. To decide on that, I collaborate with a director of photography (DP) and ask what type of camera he or she thinks is best for each project from a creative perspective, but sometimes the reality of a budget may also dictate what cameras are available to me. We will discuss the look I want for the story and then the DP and I will choose the camera.” A specialist in directing commercials and documentaries, Ogens revealed that his latest projects have relied on the features and attributes of the Cinema EOS C300 digital cameras, EOS 5D Mark III cameras and EOS 7D Digital SLR cameras from Canon U.S.A., a leader in digital imaging solutions.

But at the same time, movement must be dampened enough so that a long lens can be used for close-ups from a distance.

Canon EOS C300 Digital Cinema Camera and Canon Cinema Prime and Zoom Lenses Provide the Performance Needed by First-Time Independent Moviemaker Zephyr Benson
News: Canon EOS C300 Digital Cinema Camera and Canon Cinema Prime and Zoom Lenses Provide the Performance Needed by First-Time Independent Moviemaker Zephyr BensonThe movie’s budget was ultra-low, the shooting schedule just 21 days, and the “studio” mostly the mean streets and cramped tenements of Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Add a first-time director/screenwriter who is also portraying the film’s main character, and it was clear that making "Straight Outta Tompkins" presented multiple challenges. Nevertheless, director Zephyr Benson and DP Brandon Roots shot the film by combining diligent effort, expert collaborators, and the image quality, high mobility, and superb low-light performance of an EOS C300 cinema camera (and cinema prime and zoom lenses) from Canon, U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions. A gritty, cautionary tale of a young drug dealer, "Straight Outta Tompkins" is 21-year-old Benson’s debut feature and yet another example of the ongoing democratization in filmmaking made possible by affordable, high-performance digital cameras such as the EOS C300.

A mention in “Entertainment Weekly” discussing their Kickstarter campaign gave them a boost, a promotion party in Montrose, Colorado gave them visibility – and they raised the modest budget they required. At that time, SIM had been operating for nearly three decades and become one of the top rental houses in North America for cameras, editing systems and a variety of other gear for television, commercials and broadcast production. The rental business was going through a radical shift as productions were abandoning 35mm film in favor of digital capture. The shift involved more than switching cameras, the entire production and post-production workflow—one that had been in place for decades—needed to be reinvented in order to accommodate imagery in the form of data files rather than celluloid.
