(SAN FRANCISCO, CA, June 8, 2005) Small Tree Communications, an industry leader in providing unique, state-of-the-art enterprise networking solutions for Mac OS X, will preview Blaze, a new remote file sharing system designed specifically for Macs, during the WWDC Show in San Francisco.
Blaze offers users the ability to store large data files, such as uncompressed HD video, on a fileserver rather than local to each client and allows clients to access these files at speeds similar to the local disk. It will benefit all users sharing data, but Blaze will especially be useful in those industries where significantly large data files need to be transferred between users, including video editing, content creation, print media, and rendering farms.
Blaze is a high performance file system designed to work with the high performance networking products Small Tree is noted for, such as 10Gb Ethernet and InfiniBand. It provides remote file sharing that is completely transparent to client applications and works as if the user were accessing files on a local disk. Additionally, Blaze can drive data similarly to the maximum speed of a Gigabit Ethernet link.
Currently in Alpha development, Blaze is expected to be available in the 3Q. Small Tree is working with five industry partners to target the file system's performance and features to better serve the media space and its high performance InfiniBand customers.
To validate its performance, Small Tree ran Blaze using the Final Cut Pro application, the professional video industry's standard tool for precise editing. In addition, Small Tree has tested Blaze on other standard applications, such as GarageBand, iMovie, and iDVD to ensure seamless integration, compatibility and performance.
