News : Rising Sun Announces Integration of cineSpace with SpeedGrade OnSet

New cinematographer's calibration application to be presented at HD Expo

Last Updated: October 27, 2005 3:53 pm GMT
(ADELAIDE, Australia, October 27, 2005) Rising Sun Research, a leader in color management for the film industry, today announced a new edition of the cineSpace color management solution for cinematographers, to be introduced at the HD Expo in Los Angeles on November 3, 2005.

Named “cineSpace OnSet,” the new system was designed to integrate directly with IRIDAS’ SpeedGrade OnSet look development application. With cineSpace and SpeedGrade, cinematographers and other film professionals now have a complete color pipeline within an end-to-end calibrated environment.

Streamlined for laptops and standalone machines, cineSpace OnSet enables SpeedGrade users to develop their creative “looks” on a display calibrated to an established baseline, such as HD or a specific final film print. By first profiling the monitor, cineSpace OnSet accounts for the specific display characteristics, ensuring an accurate representation of the source material. The result for cinematographers using SpeedGrade OnSet is a new level of confidence in their color decisions and full interoperability with any facility already running cineSpace 2.1.

"With the growing trend towards digital acquisition, it has become imperative for everyone involved in a film to work with the same calibration reference point," said Tony Clark, ACS. "With cineSpace OnSet, this reference point has been extended into the production realm. This – together with SpeedGrade OnSet - puts the cinematographer firmly back into the driver’s seat."

"What IRIDAS is doing with their SpeedGrade products is having a major impact on the industry," said Didier Elzinga, Managing Director of Rising Sun Research. "Providing integrated color calibration is a natural extension of their whole approach to color grading."

"Rising Sun Research probably has the largest installed user-base in facilities around the world with cineSpace," said Lin Kayser, IRIDAS CEO. "For most cinematographers it will be a small step to link their seat of cineSpace OnSet with their postproduction partners."

CineSpace OnSet will be introduced at a special public press conference at the HD Expo in Los Angeles at 6:30 PM on Thursday, November 3, 2005. The HD Expo will take place at the Peterson Automotive Museum. To register for the HD Expo (free until October 31) please visit http://www.hdexpo.net .
