The world's first remote graphics unit

Last Updated: February 22, 2006 5:56 pm GMT
(Montreal, Canada, February 22, 2006) Matrox Graphics Inc., the leading manufacturer of graphics solutions for professionals, is pleased to announce the Matrox Extio™ F1400, the world's first external graphics unit delivering remote multi-display graphics capabilities. With this solution, the user interface of the computer - the keyboard, mouse, monitors, audio peripherals, and graphics hardware - can be separated from the host PC by distances of up to 250 meters (820 feet) of fiber optic cable. Designed for professional applications, this product supports up to four digital or analog monitors at a time, and has passive (fanless) cooling for silent operation.

"The Matrox Extio F1400 is ideal for broadcasting, post-production and sound recording studios," says Caroline Injoyan, product manager, Matrox Graphics. "The Extio F1400's extension capability and fanless design allows professionals to relocate the potentially noisy host PC to a different room while taking full advantage of Matrox's multi-display technology across a four monitor workstation."

The Extio F1400 remote graphics unit (RGU), along with the connected PCI or PCI Express (PCIe) interface card1 located in the host PC, are fanless hardware components perfect for quiet work environments. The RGU itself is outfitted with a Matrox-designed graphics chip armed with 128MB of graphics memory, a dual-LC connector for fiber optic cable, four DVI-I monitor connectors, six USB 2.0 ports (four in front, two in back), integrated audio hardware, an optical connector for digital audio output, and analog stereo-audio connectors for a microphone input, line input and line output. The Extio F1400 also features Matrox's signature quad digital and analog feature set including support for up to 1600 x 1200 quad resolution. Bundled software for the Extio includes the Matrox PowerDesk-SE suite, an intuitive interface with unique desktop management features, and display drivers for Microsoft® Windows® XP X64 (64-bit), Windows® XP, Windows® Server 2003, and Windows® 2000.
