News : NAB-HD to Use Miranda Gear for Branding and Monitoring of Cable, Satellite, and Mobile TV Channels

Last Updated: April 20, 2006 5:57 pm GMT
(MONTREAL -- April 20, 2006) Miranda Technologies Inc. has announced that NAB-HD, the fully functional HD broadcast station at NAB2006, will use its branding, monitoring, and interfacing systems to play out cable, satellite, and Mobile TV channels to attendees in Las Vegas this year.

In the master control room, NAB-HD will be using Miranda's Imagestore HD/SD master control and channel branding processors with a PresStation panel for easy control of high-impact graphics. A multiformat Kaleido-K2 multi-image display processor is fully integrated with the master control switching system, as well as Miranda's iControl end-to-end facility monitoring and control system.

"The Imagestore system allows us to brand the Mobile TV channel differently from the cable and satellite channels, and this will allow us to optimize the presentation of these formats," said Nigel Spratling, NAB-HD project director.

"We intend to output more than 60 percent of the content live. If there's a glitch anywhere on the transmission chain, it should be very easy to pinpoint using the alarms and fault investigation windows of the iControl facility monitoring over IP system."

On the show floor, NAB-HD will be using HDV cameras for live reports and interviews. By using Miranda's HD-Bridge DEC+ HDV to HD/SD interface for the editing and playout, it will be able to offer high-quality HD content at a fraction of the cost of traditional HD capture.

All the products at the NAB-HD can be seen at Miranda's booth at NAB2006: SU1341.
