(TORRANCE, CA, May 1, 2006) National Mobile Television (NMT) unveiled the HD-11, its new, all-digital HD production unit at the 2006 NAB show in Las Vegas, NV. All signal processing within this 53-foot expando trailer is handled entirely in native HD, including acquisition, switching, routing, and monitoring.
To accompany 10 Thomson Grass Valley LDK-6000 Worldcam Mark 2 cameras, HD-11 carries a variety of Fujinon Digi-Power HD zoom lenses. The Fujinon package includes two XA101x8.7ESM and six XA87x9.3ESM high magnification HD zooms. Also on board are four Fujinon HA22x7.8ERM handheld, ENG-style HD zoom lenses. All of the Fujinon XA101x8.7 and XA87x9.3 lenses provide superior image stabilization capability which is vital in live sports telecasts where camera operators commonly push zoom lenses to the fullest extent possible.
“We decided to go with Fujinon lenses for this truck because Fujinon offers a superior quality product coupled with an excellent reputation for service,” said Frank Coll, senior vice president of operations for NMT. “This truck has a tremendous amount of performance capability, including the optics. The quality of the lenses is extremely important to directors and producers of live sports telecasts.
“The zoom ratio that lenses provide is also an important consideration for live sports,” continued Coll. “Directors and camera operators want to go into the action and get close-up, and they know that Fujinon lenses allow them to do just that. Even in a low-light environment, such as a nighttime game, they can make use of the long range of Fujinon lenses and push the glass all the way to its maximum telephoto without any degradation in performance.”
Although NMT’s HD-11 truck is making its industry debut, ESPN has already booked it for its Friday night NCAA college football game coverage throughout the Fall 2006 season, including select college bowl games. The games will be produced and broadcast in 720/60p HD on ESPN and ESPN2.
“Since the games are the centerpiece of their Friday night primetime programming line-up, we take that as a major vote of confidence in the capabilities of this new HD truck,” said Coll.
HD-11 has also been equipped with a Thomson Grass Valley Kalypso HD production switcher; Chyron Duet Hyper X live graphics system; a videowall of Sony Luma-9 HD LCD monitors; 22 channels of EVS brand servers networked together; and a Calrec 100 digital audio console capable of mixing 5.1 channels of surround sound.
