News : Scratch Gets Fully Plugged-In

The Foundry announces full OFX support for ASSIMILATE’s SCRATCH system, plus ground-breaking demonstrations with Creative Bridge

Last Updated: April 24, 2006 4:45 pm GMT
(NAB 2006, Las Vegas, Booth # SL643, 24th April, 2006) Leading visual effects developer The Foundry today announced full OFX support for the latest version of ASSIMILATE’s SCRATCH Data-Centric Workflow Solution for post production/DI. This new development gives SCRATCH users access to The Foundry’s complete range of visual effect and image processing plug-ins.

At NAB 2006 SCRATCH customers will have the opportunity to check out The Foundry’s Furnace, Tinder and Keylight plug-ins at its booth, # SL643, ASSIMILATE’s demo suite #1032 at The Renaissance Hotel, plus at a variety of ASSIMILATE’s partner booths.

In addition, Creative Bridge will be showcasing its new Mobile Digital Lab and Theatre (MDLT) at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel, across from the LVCC south hall. Creative Bridge’s first MDLT is a state-of-the-art mobile theatre, housed within 36-foot trailer, and offering the calibrated viewing of digital dailies, as well as a “digital lab”. SCRATCH is an integral part of the MDLT digital film workflow, and with Furnace plug-ins added to the pipeline, this provides a unique opportunity to see the two working together in Creative Bridge’s pioneering digital production workflow.

OFX is an open plug-in standard for developing 2D digital visual effects, enabling platform hosts to take full advantage of The Foundry’s Tinder, Furnace and Keylight plug-ins. ASSIMILATE was an early supporter of the open API for visual effects, with the basic OFX architecture forming part of the very first SCRATCH system launched in September 2004. The Foundry has since worked closely with the SCRATCH development team to fully support its effects, and now SCRATCH users have full access to The Foundry’s range of plug-ins.

Jeff Edson, CEO of ASSIMILATE noted, “The openness The Foundry provides to the post-production market means more users have access to top-of-the-line effects plug-ins, no matter the platform. We support their efforts since SCRATCH users cover the broad spectrum of users, from indie filmmakers and boutique post houses to the large studios and post facilities.”

Jeff Olm, Colorist at Creative Bridge, Inc. commented, “The Foundry’s new OFX Furnace plug-ins in the SCRATCH Colour Correction and Conform package, deliver image processing abilities to the DI suite that are not available in any other high-end DI products. This helps us provide more of a total-package solution to today’s new imaging issues.”

In addition to SCRATCH, The Foundry support Autodesk Media and Entertainment’s Toxik, FilmLight’s Baselight and Nucoda’s Film Master.
