News : SpeedGrade DI to Anchor All-Digital, Tapeless Workflow at Magna Mana

Leading German Post House Purchases IRIDAS' Film Finishing Application

Last Updated: May 9, 2006 5:57 pm GMT
(Munich: May 9, 2006) IRIDAS who pioneered non-destructive color grading technology for the film industry today announced that Magna Mana Production, a leading postproduction facility in Frankfurt, Germany, has purchased SpeedGrade DI. SpeedGrade DI will be the center-piece of a new color grading suite where Magna Mana will do film finishing on feature, broadcast, and commercial projects.

SpeedGrade DI provides an advanced tool set for non-destructive, real-time color grading, conform, and finishing. SpeedGrade DI now also includes ReviewLink, a new technology from IRIDAS which allows for interactive review sessions from multiple locations.

"We chose SpeedGrade DI because of the combination of powerful features and flexibility it gives us," said Axel Mertes, CEO of Magna Mana. "From the clean design and customizability of the user interface through its smooth interoperability with our other applications, SpeedGrade DI lets us work the way that we want to, rather than having to modify our workflow in order to accommodate the technology."

SpeedGrade DI will allow the facility to streamline its pipeline and realize new efficiencies with an all-digital, tapeless pipeline. "With SpeedGrade DI we can grade material directly from our VelocityHD, Final Cut Pro HD stations, and even our AVID systems, all as a data, rather than tape-based, workflow," said Mertes. "Now we can easily exchange clips between SpeedGrade DI and our compositing tool of choice, Digital Fusion, for a faster workflow and iterative, or parallel, work steps."

Magna Mana will benefit from SpeedGrade DI's new ReviewLink functionality. "We will soon be grading movies live for clients in our Berlin office directly from Frankfurt," explained Mertes. "This is amazing: our colorists will not have to travel around any more."

The new SpeedGrade DI color suite is already booked solid with a pair of documentaries, feature film projects from their production company, Starcrest Media, and numerous commercials for clients such as Kellogg's, Fiat, Philip Morris and many others.

SpeedGrade DI is available from IRIDAS and its worldwide network of resellers. For more information, contact IRIDAS at +49 89 330 35 142 or IRIDAS USA at (818) 951-8927.
