(Munich: August 17, 2006) IRIDAS, the industry pioneer in uncompressed playback technologies, announced that Arnold & Richter Cinetechnik GmbH has selected FrameCycler DI for the film scanning department at their Digital Film facility in Munich. ARRI will use the advanced application for review of uncompressed frames for quality testing of scanned material and applying initial “tech-grade” color correction.
FrameCycler DI will provide ARRI with fast retrieval and playback of 2K sequences. ARRI will use the timeline feature to play two separate layers for its proprietary image checking system: superimposed over the actual images, a “defect map” shows the results from an infrared reader built into the scanner which flags physical issues in the original print.
“FrameCycler DI just fits right into our pipeline,” said Henning Raedlein, Head of ARRI Digital Film. “It reads really fast off our storage and integrates perfectly with our quality control systems. We like the automatic up-res feature which allows us to compare different resolutions of the same image at a 1:1 ratio.”
FrameCycler DI’s primary color grading capabilities are also getting rave reviews at the facility. “We need primary color grading tools to match and correct scanned material”, explained Henning Raedlein. “We like the intuitive approach of the FrameCycler interface for this work. The fact that the color correction is non-destructive saves on storage and allows us to try things out without losing any of our scanned data.”
