News : AMD and Austin City Limits announce top four finalists in AMD64 Second Documentary Contest

Contestants Will Film Documentaries at the ACL Festival for a Chance to Win an AMD LIVE! PC and other prizes

Last Updated: September 5, 2006 6:19 pm GMT
(AUSTIN, TX -- Spet 5, 2006) Aspiring filmmakers Kyle Jones, James Lane, Alex Mejia, and Art Perez have won an all-expense-paid trip to the Austin City Limits Music Festival in September and the opportunity to produce a 64-second film that will compete for the grand prize. The panel of celebrity musicians, including G. Love, Jack Ingram and Matt Costa, reviewed the film entries and ranked their favorites based on creativity, originality, technical prowess, and potential. The four finalist filmmakers will shoot footage at the ACL Festival venue to create a documentary on the topic “My ACL Fest Experience in 64 Seconds.”

From a poetic approach to this year’s ACL line-up, the four finalists’ entries were inspired by a variety of sources and push the limits of digital technology available today.

This promotional initiative, sponsored by AMD and Capital Sports and Entertainment (CSE), brings together music and technology. AMD will provide the finalists a production area within the Festival grounds for editing and producing their footage on AMD LIVE!™ media center PCs featuring AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual-core processors.

On September 19, 2006 the four finalists’ documentaries from the ACL Festival will post on the contest’s Web site www.aclfestival.com/amd64seconds, and public voting will begin. The grand prize winner will be announced on September 29, 2006, and will receive sponsor gifts including 2007 ACL passes and a full-featured AMD LIVE! media center PC.

In addition, mtvU – MTV’s 24-hour college channel, broadcast to 750 colleges and universities nationwide – will showcase the four finalists’ works on the network’s all-access broadband channel, mtvU Über at mtvU.com. mtvU will also be on hand at the ACL Music Festival to film the student finalists for short features promoting their final documentaries and asking for students to vote in the contest.
