(SAN DIEGO, Aug. 9, 2007) Autodesk, Inc. today introduced Autodesk Maya 2008 modeling, animation, visual effects and rendering software (announced separately). Maya 2008 is designed for the Macintosh OS X operating system running on Intel-based Macintosh and PowerPC computers.|
The new version is ideal for Macintosh artists in the graphic design, broadcast and film industries. Maya 2008 is being showcased at the Autodesk booth (#703) during SIGGRAPH 2007, being held at the San Diego Convention Center August 7-9.
“The Mac is at the heart of creative desktop content creation, and with the new Intel-based Mac hardware, adoption is booming.” said Marc Petit, Autodesk Media & Entertainment senior vice president. “Autodesk meets the 3D needs of this thriving community through ongoing innovation and support of the latest Apple hardware technologies. Autodesk Maya 2008 provides Mac users with a production-proven and robust professional 3D solution.”
Illustration and animation boutique Noumena Digital relies on Maya to compete with larger studios. Rob Magiera, creative director at Noumena Digital, explained: “Autodesk Maya lets me deliver the creative, high-quality results my clients have come to expect. It just gets better with every release. We don't have a dedicated IT department, so ease of set up, systems maintenance and reliability are paramount to our productivity. That's where Maya on Macintosh OS X really shines. Installation and upgrades are a snap and everything runs as expected right out of the box.”
Highlights of Maya 2008
- Increased polygon modeling efficiency:
Maya 2008 enables artists to quickly create, manipulate and place polygons that form highly detailed characters and environments, through a Mesh Smooth workflow, Slide Edge feature and improvements to Booleans, Bridge, Bevel and other tools.
- Overall performance improvements for greater efficiency:
With Maya 2008, Autodesk continues the task of optimizing Maya toolsets to provide greater performance through both multi-threading and algorithmic speed-ups. This helps Maya to meet the demands of today’s complex projects and their massive data sets.
- Increased flexibility for character setup and animation:
Building upon Maya software’s advanced, customizable animation system, Maya 2008 delivers improved skinning and rigging toolsets, including new, non-destructive skin editing capabilities.
