(Calgary, Alberta, August 21, 2007) iStockphoto®, today announced that it rewarded its exclusive members with 100 percent of all revenues from their images sold on Aug. 20.|
The giveaway took place one day after the previously announced "Punctum Day," which celebrates outstanding artistry in five categories. In total, iStock 'exclusives' will have received over $100,000 as a result of one day's downloads from iStockphoto.
One iStockphoto exclusive member, Kelly Cline, says, "iStockphoto is a stellar machine that enables me to make money from what was once a hobby, and the support of the network has encouraged me to pursue it fully. Receiving the extra money is an exceptional bonus."
All 2,300 iStockphoto exclusive members sell their stock imagery and video only through the iStockphoto website. This provides talented artists with a second source of income, and designers worldwide with great imagery and video. Becoming an exclusive member can triple a contributor's earnings and enhances both the business and legal support that iStock can offer them. The site currently has over two million members.
"Punctum Day was inspired by our members, and we gave the money away the first weekday after to maximize the bonus paid our contributors. We wanted to find a way to thank our iStockphoto 'exclusives' and this is a great way to reward them for their support and for making iStockphoto the most visited stock imagery site in the world," said Bruce Livingstone, CEO of iStockphoto.
August 19 also saw iStockphoto announce the shortlists for its Punctum Day Awards. The iStockphoto community voted for the best images and content on the website. The shortlist for the first Punctum Day Awards can be seen at: http://www.istockphoto.com/punctum_contest.php
Winners will be announced September 4, 2007.
iStockphoto, http://www.istockphoto.com , is the world's busiest image market, with an image downloaded every 2.5 seconds. iStock pioneered the micropayment phenomenon in this industry, enabling buyers to license images for as little as a dollar. iStockphoto entered the stock video market in September of 2006. In partnership with its members, iStockphoto has turned community into commerce, transforming the digital imagery market by encouraging passionate dialogue and education, while making imagery affordable to businesses that may not have licensed imagery otherwise. iStockphoto is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Getty Images.
