News : GLUE TOOLS releases Cineon/DPX Pro v2.5.10 with Leopard Support, and DPX Proxy Frame Creation

Last Updated: November 26, 2007 4:41 pm GMT
(Santa Barbara, California--November 26, 2007) Glue Tools has released v2.5.10 of its Cineon and DPX QuickTime Components. This new release now has the ability to generate Proxy Sized DPX frames, as well as the ability to Clone the DPX headers during export. Leopard support is also now available, with the introduction of a QuickLook plugin for both Cineon and DPX frames.

Entire Sequences can now be viewed in Leopard's revolutionary "Cover flow" mode in Finder. Individual frames can be previewed quickly, without the need to launch a large Application. QuickTime Metadata support has also been updated to support QuickTime 7.1/72./7.3 APIs.

The new Proxy Frame Creation ability lets the Artist generate identical, yet smaller DPX frames from a larger DPX Sequence. With the addition of a "Clone Header" mode, the new smaller sized frames can be identical to the larger sequence, but up to 1/10th the size. This saves on disk storage space, and allows for real time playback on many types of systems. Laptops in particular, benefit from these smaller "Proxy Sized" DPX frames. Final Cut Pro users will also benefit, as they can edit their project using these Proxy Sized Frames, and still have all of the header information, Time Code and reel name that the larger frames have. Once the project is ready, they can Online their project, by simple reconnecting to the larger DPX images.

Additional new abilities include the ability to add or remove Rec709 Gamma corrections during export. QuickTime Metadata has been re-written and modernized. Final Cut Pro will automatically embed Cineon and DPX header information into the Clip's XML, when available.

The software has also has undergone a large number of fixes and improvements for stability as well.

This upgrade is free to existing 2.5.x owners.

The Cineon file format is a widely used digital film image format which was developed by Kodak for the Feature Film industry. The DPX digital image file format was developed by SMPTE and is used heavily in the Feature Film and High Definition broadcast industries for production.
