Last Updated: February 14, 2008 5:38 pm GMT
(SECAUCUS, New Jersey--February 14, 2008) Panasonic Broadcast today announced that it has signed a two-year agreement with the Meredith Broadcasting Group to supply P2 HD solid-state camcorders group-wide to its 13 stations producing local news.

The Meredith Broadcasting Group, part of publishing giant Meredith Corporation (Des Moines, IA), includes properties in top-25 markets such as Atlanta, Phoenix and Portland, Ore., and reaches more than 10 million U.S. households.

It is projected that over the next two years the Meredith stations will purchase up to 250 ENG-style AJ-HPX2000 2/3" and AG-HPX500 2/3" P2 HD camcorders. In most cases, the stations will upgrade from existing Panasonic DVCPRO ENG gear. Several Meredith stations will also invest in Panasonic AK-HC931B and AK-HC3500 HD studio cameras as they transition to HD news production.

John Baisley, President, Panasonic Broadcast, said, “We are very gratified at this large-scale commitment by Meredith to our P2 HD equipment. Meredith joins an expanding list of broadcast customers who are enjoying the substantial workflow improvements and overall operating efficiencies of Panasonic P2 HD solid-state solutions.”

“Meredith has a successful track record with DVCPRO tape-based products, and we are convinced that Panasonic offers the most compelling solid-state solution as we transition to HD newsgathering,” said Joe Snelson, VP of Engineering, Meredith Broadcasting Group. “We anticipate that P2 HD’s exceptional reliability, improved image quality and significant workflow benefits will bolster our marketplace positions group-wide.”
