(San Antonio, Texas--April 15, 2008) NewTek, Inc., manufacturer of industry-leading video and 3D animation products, today announced that the National Hockey League has integrated TriCaster™, its portable production and virtual set system, into the seven-channel digital network of its recently re-launched NHL.com Web site.
With an emphasis on live content, NHL.com, as well as select NHL teams will use the TriCaster to produce and stream content for their LiveWire Channel, featuring special all-access shows, daily live news conferences, morning skates and other live events.
The other channels will offer current highlights and classic games and interviews from the last two and a half years as well as podcasts, radio programming and other archival features. The league has sold major sponsorships for the digital channels to Bud Light, Cisco and Dodge.
“The re-launching of NHL.com is a massive undertaking, and the cornerstone of this effort was to establish an exciting and vital live video aspect for the hockey fanatics and casual fans alike,” said Andre Mika, VP, Broadband and New Media, NHL. “TriCaster, which did a great job for us streaming coverage of this year’s All-Star Game and Winter Classic, was a natural choice for us as we were conceiving this much more aggressive, large scale approach to live, online video programming.”
“With TriCaster, the new NHL.com site will bring fans closer to the games and their favorite players, build enthusiasm for the sport and reach new audiences, while allowing the NHL to take advantage of a new dynamic revenue stream,” said Philip Nelson, NewTek’s Sr. Vice President, Strategic Development. “The NHL is giving their fans unprecedented access to their favorite teams, athletes and sport and we are thrilled to have the portable live production tool that is making it possible.”
TriCaster™ enables sports organizations, corporate communications departments, broadcasters, schools and others to provide a whole new level of live programming and content to their fans, partners and other audiences. Now, a single operator can produce a live show switching between as many as six cameras with two VCR’s, multi-channel effects, and NewTek’s proprietary virtual sets and keying technology using TriCaster™.

The TriCaster™ family of products in NTSC is available in North America starting at $4,995US. The TriCaster™ family of products is available in dual standard internationally beginning at $6,995US.
