(Tamworth, UK--June 17, 2008) Last Saturday night, in the closing Gala Banquet and Awards Ceremony of the INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL HEART OF ENGLAND 2008, the mixed-media film "THE OUTSIDER", brainchild of U.S. filmmaker Joaquin "Kino" Gil, starring LA actress Catie Boles, won the HEART Award for BEST SCIENCE FICTION FILM, from a roster of five finalists and more than 100 entrants.

THE OUTSIDER explores the plight of a young woman chosen by chance to champion the human race in an interstellar war with the help of live action, computer animation and digital filmmaking techniques, all created by Mr. Gil, who was part of the Special Effects teams who brought us "CONTACT" with Jodie Foster, "Starship Troopers" and Academy award winner "As Good As It Gets", starring Jack Nicholson.

Joaquin is an expert in technology, animation and digital storytelling, and works out of his KINO.digital animation boutique in the Marina del Rey area ( http://home1.gte.net/kino ), from where he also creates special effects and computer animation designed for the independent film's budget.
