(IBC-Amsterdam, Netherlands--September 13, 2008) At IBC2008 da Vinci Systems introduced its fastest digital mastering suite, the top-of-the-line Resolve® R-4K. A fully interactive, real-time color correcting and DI finishing system built to handle the demands of the 4K environment, the R-4K joins the da Vinci Resolve R-series family, setting the new industry standard for nonlinear processing speed and performance.
The challenges of 4K DI projects exceed the complexity of tracking color-grading decisions in the metadata that stands apart from the images. These challenges include maintaining sufficient storage, bandwidth, and throughput, as well as adequate processing power to enable interactivity and real-time rendering. As the acknowledged leader in 4K digital color grading, da Vinci "ups the ante" with its R-4K next-generation system.
"If da Vinci manufactured custom cars, this one would be setting land-speed records on the Bonneville Salt Flats," said Dean Lyon, director of marketing at da Vinci. "At the NAB Show in April, we wowed everyone with a demo of this machine, and five months later we are rolling it out, ready-to-ship. Like all of our Resolve systems, this one can read from shared SAN and plays well with others while still delivering top performance."
Based on da Vinci's advanced new processing engine, C.O.R.E.™ (CUDA™ Optimized Resolve Engine), the entire Resolve R-series line accomplishes real-time throughput of nonlinear images in film, television, and commercial applications. With the introduction of C.O.R.E., da Vinci became the first in the industry to use GPUs for sheer processing power, thus overcoming the complex, computation-intensive challenges that go along with color finishing work. The R-4K relies on eight da Vinci C.O.R.E. processors to perform real-time 4K color grading with 4K display.
Also at its IBC2008 stand 7.31C, da Vinci unveiled the R-100, a feature-packed price-performance industry coup that is fully scalable and upgradable, and the R-3D, an unparalleled solution for stereoscopic 3-D finishing.
