(IBC-Amsterdam, Netherlands--September 15, 2008) Panasonic PBITS Professional & Broadcast Systems showcased the techniques and benefits of production with P2HD, the AVC Intra codec, and the AJ-HPX3000 camera at its D-Cinema presentation at IBC2008 on September 14th.
The presentation featured a range of some of the best HD content currently being broadcast around Europe, shot on Panasonic products including the AJ-HDX900 and the high-end AJ-HPX3000 using AVC Intra. Key European directors explained the advantages of the Panasonic IT and HD workflow, using their own material, including documentaries, drama series, and live concerts.
UK-sourced content included "Live From Abbey Road", the groundbreaking new HD music show featuring artists such as Mary J. Blige, Stereophonics, Herbie Hancock, Corinne Bailey Rae, David Gray, and James Blunt.
"The D-Cinema presentation is part of Panasonic's industrywide programme of education on IT-based production," says Panasonic PBITS Director Jaume Rey. "We want filmmakers and production staff to fully grasp the opportunities the technology offers, and one of the best ways of doing this is learning from the experience of directors who have already discovered the way forward."
From Italy, DOP Flavio Scarponi presented a four-minute preview of an upcoming thriller production for Italian TV, shot with AJ-HPX3000 cameras using AVC Intra, and from Spain, cinematographer Pol Turrents presented sequences from the movie "Negro Buenos Aires" before describing the workflow on set and in post-production, together with special features of the cameras.
Panasonic's AJ-HPX3000 2.2M 3CCD camcorder records onto the P2 card system of solid-state flash memory. The camcorder is equipped with five card slots and uses the highest quality AVC Intra 100 codec, giving users much more compact storage combined with outstanding image quality. Equipped with five 32-GB P2 cards, the AJ-HPX3000 will capture up to 200 minutes of 1080/24p HD material.
