(Boston, Massachusetts--October 14, 2008) Leading broadcast design firm National Ministry of Design will showcase their expertise in designing for high definition, at this year’s HD World Conference & Exhibition.
The show, which takes place from Wednesday, October 15th – Thursday, October 16th at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, is dedicated to providing insight into the field of high definition (HD) television, video, audio, broadcast, cable and film applications.
Designing for high definition since 2000, Design Directors Jean McCarvill and Dave Allen were awarded their very first HD broadcast design project by Discovery Channel. McCarvill and Allen were asked to develop promos for the one-hour premiere of The International Space Station, which aired on television and in theatres in 150 countries in 32 languages. Since then, NMD has created highly visible brand identities, promos and show packaging for numerous television and cable networks nationally and internationally. Some of their more notable HD projects include, an identity package for The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, show packaging for Animal Planet’s Planet’s Best, promos for Discovery HD Theatre, a news package for TV Azteca in Mexico, a promo for PBS’ Walking the Bible, a network launch for Veria-TV, show packaging for AARP’s flagship programs My Generation and Inside E Street airing on Retirement Living, and titles for two independent films Long Distance and The Price of Sugar.
With four years experience designing for high definition under their belts, NMD was approached by The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers in 2004 to educate their membership about high definition. Participants of the workshop learned what different HD formats exist and factors to consider when choosing a format; how editing differs from SD to HD, and what tools are available. The workshop was such a success, that the award-winning firm decided to formalize and offer their HD workshops to television and cable networks. Since that time, National has designed and presented customized HD workshops for ABC, Discovery Communications, National Geographic, The Weather Channel, American Society of Cinematographers, and advertising agency Arnold Worldwide.
“As networks continue to make the transition from standard to high definition, we anticipate strong demand for our formalized HD workshops and are proud to be the company that networks rely on for that education,” said Kathy O’Toole, National Ministry of Design’s General Manager.
Although many of the networks have already made the transition from standard to high definition there are still networks who request their deliverables in standard definition. Most recently, NMD was asked by ABC to create promos for Good Morning America, ABC World News with Charles Gibson and Nightline in standard definition. We recently delivered show packaging to both Bloomberg TV and tru TV in standard definition. National Ministry of Design is also credited with designing the ESPN News logo, creating the initial show open and logo for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, writing and producing a promo for HBO’s Curse of the Bambino, developing a promo for Britany Spears’ TV show Chaotic and redesigning The CBS Early Show.
This is the second year that National Ministry of Design will be exhibiting at HD World. “We were so impressed with the volume of cable and television network executives who visited our booth last year that we felt compelled to exhibit again this year,” said Laura Yellen, National Ministry of Design’s Business Development Director.
