News : NEP Denali Adopts Calrec Alpha With Bluefin for State-of-the-Art Dual HD Mobile Production Truck

Alpha Installed in New Denali Summit HD Truck, Optimized for Entertainment Market, Is Among Largest, Most Capable Consoles on the Road

(Hebden Bridge, UK--November 12, 2008) Calrec Audio today announced that NEP Denali, a leading mobile television production facility, is using a Calrec Alpha with Bluefin in its newest HD mobile unit to support production of large-scale entertainment shows and concerts.

The 96-fader Alpha audio console is installed in Denali Summit, a state-of-the-art HD mobile unit comprising two 53-foot expando trailers that are wired together to provide robust production capabilities in a quiet, comfortable, and spacious environment.

"Calrec's Alpha is an extraordinarily large and capable console, and it has generated a universally positive response from operators," said Denali Chief Audio Engineer Hugh Healy. "No other console provides so many I/Os, supports so many signals, and is so easy to use. With the Alpha installed in Denali Summit, we maintain a very competitive position within the entertainment production market. The console allows us to meet our clients' high expectations, and it gives us room to grow as the standard for music and entertainment shows continues to rise."

Denali Summit launched in September 2008 with production for the star-studded Stand Up To Cancer television special, shot at the Kodak Theater. Built by NEP Broadcasting, the mobile unit is wired for 24 camera control units, 20 VTRs, and seven servers. Summit's Alpha console, among the largest such systems ever commissioned, is capable of 480 fully featured channel processing paths with dynamics in combinations of mono, stereo, and 5.1 channels, 96 faders with two layers each, plus 5.1 groups and masters. The console is equipped with four MADI ports and Hydra fiber connectivity to the stage, with 144 mic inputs and 48 returns. The Alpha's multitrack system comprises, all simultaneously, 128 tracks of built-in AES multitrack, 128 tracks of guest AES multitrack, 128 tracks of MADI multitrack, and 128 tracks of guest analog multitrack.

Bluefin high density signal processing allows the Alpha to deal with large numbers of surround sources. The console's assignable control surface minimizes screen use and provides direct access to the majority of console functions. Unlike other systems, which require users to program in mono, EQ, and multitrack channels, the Alpha can accommodate any of these channels without forcing operators to recompile the console. For NEP Denali, this operational simplicity makes it easy to adapt to changes or late additions to a show.
