News : Canal Sur TV Selects Panasonic P2 HD for News Programs

Last Updated: February 6, 2009 5:38 pm GMT
(Barcelona, Spain--February 6, 2009) Panasonic PBITS Professional & Broadcast IT Systems announced that Spanish broadcaster Radio y TV de Andalucía (RTVA) has standardised on Panasonic P2 HD cameras and technology for its Canal Sur TV news programs.

The RTVA group acquired AG-HPX500 and AG-HPX171 cameras, AJ-HPM110E mobile players/recorders, P2 AJ-PCD20E units and P2 solid-state memory cards for its studios in Almería, Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaén, Málaga and Sevilla.

The Panasonic P2 HD gear provides Canal Sur TV with increased recording flexibility and greater efficiency for their newsroom content. Thanks to the P2 HD technology, Canal Sur TV can also select different DVCPRO formats: 25, 50 or 100 Mbps, depending on coverage, quality and assignment requirements.

"The Panasonic P2 technology offers us the best solution in terms of quality, operational speed and particularly cost reduction, taking into account that maintenance cost is zero," says José Enrique Zamorano, Technical Director of Canal Sur Televisión. "Panasonic's excellent five-day turnaround repair service is also a very important safeguard for a busy news operation."

"As one of Spain's major broadcasters, Canal Sur is always looking for ways to keep its excellent position as a technological leader," said Tony Feliu, Manager of PBITS Spain. "The installation of P2 cameras, equipment and storage technology makes Canal Sur part of a rapidly growing band of broadcast organisations throughout Europe and the world experiencing the outstanding business benefits of solid-state production, backed by Panasonic's exceptional support and service package."

To facilitate the implementation of the P2 HD equipment, Panasonic provided technical training in the Canal Sur studios for the technicians and camera operators.

Panasonic's P2 solid state storage format for video, audio and metadata has come to dominate tapeless production, capturing more than 85 percent of those broadcasters who have decided to go tapeless. Many of Europe's and the world's major broadcasters have adopted P2 technology — among them Sky News, Reuters, BBC, France2, TF1, YLE and RTBF — for the outstanding creativity, efficiency, convenience and versatility that P2 technology offers.
