News : Sorenson Media Announces Significant Expansion Into San Diego

Last Updated: March 17, 2009 7:47 pm GMT
(San Diego, California--March 17, 2009) Sorenson Media today announced a significant expansion of its operations into San Diego, Calif., effective immediately. The company’s new San Diego office will now serve as the central hub for the company’s business operations.

In the midst of the current economic downturn, the industry-leading digital media solutions company will open significant employment opportunities in both San Diego and its existing Salt Lake City, Utah, location as it expands services and accelerates its growth in the burgeoning online video market.

“Southern California is at the heart of digital media innovation today,” said Sorenson Media’s new CEO, Peter Csathy, who is based in San Diego. “Expansion of our operations into Southern California will help us tap into a powerful network of people and resources and will also bring us closer to partners and customers. We already have the industry’s top video compression and encoding talent and technology and we intend to leverage that strength and expertise to become a major player in the online video industry.”

Csathy recently joined Sorenson Media and has 20 years in the digital media industry. He has led several highly successful high-growth digital media ventures, including most recently SightSpeed, acquired by Logitech in late 2008, and Musicmatch, acquired by Yahoo! in 2004.

Sorenson Media is actively looking to significantly expand its current San Diego office location to accommodate anticipated growth. The staff is expected to triple in size within one year, Csathy said.

Founded in 1995 by Salt Lake City entrepreneur James Lee Sorenson, Sorenson Media pioneered significant new technologies, many of which are at the core of today’s digital revolution and are a foundation for distributing high-quality, mass-market video over the Internet. The company is fully funded, and has established a continuing track record of market success and profitability.

Sorenson Media’s Sorenson Squeeze software is the industry’s leading video compression and encoding application. The company’s Sorenson Squish and SquishNet products and services provide users with an embedded Web application and customizable back-end Web site server to publish, organize, view and share video. The Sorenson Spark Software Developers Kit gives developers the power to add the popular Sorenson Spark decoder to nearly any digital device and enables playback of high-speed Flash-based video on cell phones and other portable media devices.
