News : NextComputing Announces NextDimension Director PX2 Portable P2 Acquisition and Review System

Last Updated: April 7, 2009 6:04 pm GMT
(Nashua, New Hampshire--April 7, 2009) NextComputing, manufacturers of high-performance mobile computers for digital media production, today announced a new addition to its NextDimension series of portable computers which is designed specifically for users of Panasonic's P2 HD tapeless digital video camcorders and solid-state recording media. The NextDimension Director PX2 fits seamlessly into a tapeless P2 workflow, providing a robust and transportable solution for fast offloading, reviewing, and archiving of video files recorded to P2 cards.

The NextDimension Director PX2 will make its public debut at the NAB Show, April 20-23 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, in booth SL6427.

The Director PX2 is the market's first portable P2 media management system to feature:
  • (5) P2 card slots connected over a high-speed internal PCI Express interface
  • (2) sets of two removable and protected SATA hard drives for up to 2TB (terabytes) of media storage
  • Integrated high-resolution (1920x1200) wide-screen HD display and robust graphics for full-raster 1080 clip playback
  • Easy-to-use ShotPut™ Pro media offload software from Imagine Products
  • Briefcase-like portable chassis weighing less than 25 lbs.
  • Optional integrated touch-screen for a streamlined user experience

Intended for use as a media offload system, NextDimension Director PX2 is powerful enough to perform "rough-cut" edits on-set. Optionally, the Director can function as a central media server for connecting multiple external editing stations, such as laptops running Apple's Final Cut Pro, to edit off the Director's local storage.

NextComputing based the Director PX2 on its flagship NextDimension family of high-performance, mobile computers, taking its enterprise-class server characteristics and incredibly compact design and tailoring it to meet the needs of the professional video production market.

Since the NextDimension is built on open-standards system architecture, future plans for the Director include support for other tapeless video formats such as Sony SxS cards for its XDCAM EX series or REV-Pro media for the Grass Valley Infinity™ Digital Media Camcorder.

This turnkey solution is available now from NextComputing starting at $10,995. To learn more, please visit our website at NextComputing.com.
