(NAB Las Vegas, Nevada--April 21, 2009) Sony’s newest version of the Anycast Station™ content producer is available without pre-installed interface modules, allowing users to easily customize the portable “all-in-one” live production gear to meet their individual needs.
The new version (model AWS-G500E) retains all the original multi-functionality of its predecessors. It combines a six-input video switcher and six-stereo channel audio mixer, special effects generator, LCD screen for GUI control and preview/program monitor, control of Sony PTZ robotic cameras, and an encoder and Web server for delivering streaming media, as well as a still store, character generator, scale converter and frame synchronizer.
The BKAW-581 serial digital interface (SDI) module will be a new option for the Anycast Station solution.
“Now customers can choose only the modules they really need without paying for pre-installed modules that will either be replaced or go unused,” said Rob Willox, director of marketing, content creation group at Sony Electronics. “For example, a DV interface is not required for most live event or studio production work. With this new version, users can easily customize their system and keep their operating costs low, while still maintaining their connectivity options to our professional line of HDV™ camcorders, decks and displays.”
All three slots on the unit’s rear side are left empty, giving users the option to add any of the available Anycast Station system interface modules. In addition to the new BKAW-581 SDI module, these include the BKAW-550 (PC RGB), BKAW-570 (SD video), or BKAW-580 (SDI) modules, as well as the BKAW-560 (HD video) or the BKAW-590 (HD SDI) modules.
The Anycast Station system can be an invaluable tool for production crews and broadcast organizations with heavy live event schedules. It can be used to record events and also to produce broadcast feeds more easily or stream content live over the Internet.
The ability to control robotic pan-tilt-zoom cameras--such as Sony’s EVI or BRC series cameras --helps crews capture shots that wouldn’t have been possible with camera-operated personnel, while still allowing them to remain unobtrusive. Cameras can be positioned on rafters or other out of the way places.
The Anycast Station producer’s “all-in-one” design can also remove many of the headaches traditionally associated with live production, specifically during set-up and tear-down, allowing crews to focus on the event itself, rather than technical logistics.
The AWS-G500E version of the Anycast Station system is planned to be available in June, at a suggested list price of less than $15,000. The BKAW-581 SDI module is planned to be available in August, with pricing to be announced.
