News : Broadcast Pix Goes Portable with Magic Wave Magma at NAB 2009

Magic Wave Productions Unveils Portable Integrated Production System Powered by Broadcast Pix

Last Updated: April 21, 2009 3:42 pm GMT
(Billerica, Massachusetts--April 21, 2009) The functionality of Broadcast Pix™ is going portable. Magic Wave Productions, Inc., a systems integrator and event video production company based in Pleasanton, Calif., has created the Magic Wave Magma, a portable unit powered by the Broadcast Pix Slate™ integrated production system.

Magma is being demonstrated at the Broadcast Pix booth during the 2009 NAB Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev. (Booth SU2617).

Magma incorporates a Broadcast Pix Slate and its Fluent™ workflow software into a portable, ruggedized 45-pound package that can be quickly set up on a table or other work surface. The system includes a 17-inch LCD monitor and detachable keyboard, plus a custom semi-soft travel case with wheels for easy transport. Optional accessories include a hard-sided shipping case as well as other Broadcast Pix control interfaces, including the new Slate 100 Control Panel and larger Slate control panels.

Drew Kutlik, president and CEO of Magic Wave Productions, said he created Magma to help his clients avoid the need to transport large, cumbersome racks of equipment on location. “I’ve done a lot of remote shoots, and you always want your system to be as portable as possible,” he explained. “The Broadcast Pix integrated production system is a natural fit.” According to Kutlik, the Magma prototype has already been used successfully in the field for several shoots by CreaTV San Jose, a nonprofit public channel that serves San Jose, Calif.

“The power of Broadcast Pix has been harnessed into a portable format,” said Ken Swanton, president of Broadcast Pix. “Now, our Slate systems can help produce compelling live video cost-effectively in the field. And for facilities that already use Broadcast Pix in their control rooms, Magma lets them learn one system for both studio and remote productions.”

The Magic Wave Magma system maintains all the I/O functionality of the Broadcast Pix Slate integrated production system, including the video switcher, multi-viewer, Inscriber CG, clip and graphic stores, Fluent workflow software, and aspect and format conversion. Magma will also support 3G 1080p Slate system upgrades. Magma HD/SD-SDI, SD, analog, and hybrid configurations are available. Magic Wave Productions will sell Magma through Broadcast Pix Elite dealers in the Americas and selected Broadcast Pix distributors worldwide.
