(May 19, 2009) Cut + Run Editor David Checel has once again teamed with Director Benny Boom, this time on "Next Day Air" the just-released feature film that is getting praise from critics and audiences alike.
Nathan Lee of the NY Times writes: "...with a script that snaps, characters that pop, a blaze of streetwise attitude and enough firepower to pulverize a significant chunk of South Philadelphia, "Next Day Air" nears neo-blaxploitation perfection."
The film features an ensemble cast, including Mos Def and Debbie Allen, in a complex underworld farce of drugs, slackers and prostitutes. Boom, who has directed numerous music videos for 50 Cent, Nas, P. Diddy and more, has collaborated with Checel on numerous projects and tapped the editor for this exciting and complex feature. Checel is known for his editing contribution to videos for Christina Aguilera, 50 Cent, Outkast and Pussycat Dolls, as well as projects for Orbit, Dr. Pepper, Samsung, Nike and Gatorade. "My experience editing commercials and music videos was an asset when it came to cutting the film, especially where the stylized flashbacks were concerned," says Checel. "I love working on a variety of projects throughout the year, from spots to films, beauty to narrative. They inform each other and keep the creative process fresh. Collaborating with directors like Benny is exciting to be sure. I hope people enjoy the film."
