(Wayne, New Jersey--May 19, 2009) Camp Digital, a mobile production company based in Hendersonville, Tenn., used a variety of Fujinon lenses as part of its high definition production services provided for the Gospel Music Association’s 40th Annual Dove Awards program, which was televised live on the Gospel Music Channel last month.
Produced by Steve Gilreath Television for the Gospel Music Channel, the 40th Annual GMA Dove Awards marked a milestone for both the Gospel Music Association and for Camp Digital. Broadcast for the first time in HD, the Dove Awards garnered the show’s largest television audience in its history. The production was also Camp Digital’s first live television project.
Camp Digital used a complement of eight Fujinon HD lenses from the company’s primary HD production unit, Journey HD, for the telecast. Camp Digital also provided additional production support for the show’s producers from its secondary production unit, Passage HD.
Journey HD, which first rolled out in December 2008, operates with eight Sony HDC-1500L cameras and on this show utilized a Fujinon HD lens package consisting of one XA88x 8.8BESM telephoto HD lens, one XA66X9.3BESM telephoto HD lens, one ZA22 X 7.6BERM handheld HD lens, one HA20X7.8BERM telephoto lens, and four ZA12X4.5BERM wide angle lenses.
According to Tom Gregory, Camp Digital Vice President of Business Development, Fujinon’s reputation for excellence led to their selection for the truck’s lens inventory. “Journey HD was designed and built to produce high-end entertainment events,” he said. “We consider Fujinon lenses to be the standard for quality that provide the best production values. The Dove Awards production went off without a hitch and we owe that in part to the lenses.”
Camp Digital set up both its trucks, Journey HD and Passage HD, on location for four days at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville to prepare for this year’s Dove Awards. With more than 20 live performances by 42 artists, the two-hour live broadcast offered sizable technical and logistical challenges. The program required 390 microphones from Shure, as well as 24 different video projectors/monitors in varying aspect ratios.
Passage HD served as a support unit, housing video replay, nonlinear editing and graphics in the rear suite, plus an executive producer suite in front with dual 32-inch flat screen monitors displaying the live program and the director’s multi-view screen. Four channels of RTS intercom provided monitoring throughout the entire system.
This month, Camp Digital is scheduled to provide production services on another HD show for Gospel Music Channel, Gospel Dream. Similar to American Idol, Gospel Dream is a performance competition for aspiring Christian music stars.
