Last Updated: June 8, 2009 5:03 pm GMT
(Edinburgh, Scotland--June 8, 2009) Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) MD Ginnie Atkinson today announced details of a new initiative for industry professionals at the Festival. Reinforcing its ethos as a 'festival for filmmakers', the EIFF will be hosting a series of presentations, debates, screenings and masterclasses that look at cinematography and 3D stereo production.

Led by professionals working at the cutting edge of motion picture technology, the aim is to assist filmmakers with the vast range of film and digital choices that are available today, and the Festival’s intention is to engender contact and discussion between talent and technology; culture and commerce, and innovation and industry. This year’s programme represents the first stage of a longterm initiative to broaden EIFF’s remit further into digital practices for production, post-production, exhibition and distribution.

Included in the programme of events which takes place within the Festival on 25 - 27 June are:

Also new to the EIFF in 2009 is Tales From The Digital Frontier, presented by Power To The Pixel over two afternoons on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 June. The event will investigate innovative cross-media filmmaking models, include candid discussions about new platforms and digital revenues, and examine how brands are becoming involved in the film business.

With the Digital Britain Report as a backdrop, Lord Puttnam delivers his keynote speech on Sunday 21 June.

Commenting on these industry focuses, Ginnie Atkinson said: “We have a powerful and unique line-up of events that will greatly assist filmmakers in getting to grips with the film and digital choices from production through to distribution. This year’s Festival will provide industry delegates with a wider view on filmmaking in the modern world, and these events augment an industry events programme that is already brimming over with significant sessions.”
