(Amsterdam-IBC, The Netherlands--September 10, 2009) At IBC in Amsterdam, FilmLight will show complete interoperability between its Baselight colour grading system and Avid editing systems.
The demonstration will feature seamless offline and online workflows for both video and file-based acquisition using a wide variety of formats. Employing newly-developed Baselight Kompressor technology, these workflows allow colourists to easily access centrally-stored media-whether on an Avid Unity|Isis or Apple XSan-to grade and write clips in their native format. Able to read and exchange AAF or XML sequence information, Baselight can thus function as a component of a collaborative, non-linear workflow, making it easier for colourists and editors to work together and yielding a more efficient post-production process. The same workflow solution can also be used with FinalCut Pro workgroups.
"Integration is key. Workflows and formats are changing all the time, and it is necessary for tools to work well together. Above all, it should be easy and transparent for the user," said FilmLight Sales Director Mike Grieve. "This new solution saves time, storage space and costs, and regardless of the source media, Baselight provides superior non-linear grading."
Baselight Kompressor technology can be integrated into a single Baselight unit or a high-speed network comprising multiple Baselights. It can encode and decode a wide variety of media on-the-fly, offloading this task from the Baselight system for greater efficiency. The system supports most popular media codecs including Avid DNxHD, Apple ProRes, Sony XDCam and Panasonic AVC-Intra.
FilmLight will be exhibiting Baselight and other products at Stand 7.F31. IBC 2009 will be held in Amsterdam from the 11-15 September.
