(Amsterdam-IBC, The Netherlands--September 11, 2009) Today is the European unveiling of the new SI-3D, the only fully integrated 3D cinema or HD camera and stereo visualisation system in the world. Developed by Silicon Imaging, with 3D production input and on-set field testing by Inition, the new SI-3D has a completely new feature set designed to further simplify stereoscopic 3D Cinema production and HD broadcast.
Initially introduced at NAB, the SI-3D continues to evolve based on its software and IP centric architecture. The SI-3D shoots uncompressed raw 2K or HD footage from two synchronized SI-2K Mini cameras controlled through a single Silicon DVR touchscreen interface. On-set each camera can be viewed individually or in 50/50, Side-by-Side, Mesh, Anaglyph & Wiggle modes on 2D or 3D displays.
New features for the IBC launch include virtual convergence for live parallax adjustment, a digital slate system with automated scene, shot and take sequencing, project timecode conforming and window burn-in and more Stereo-3D display modes. For shot continuity, an integrated 3D Frame Store enables the operator to grab and save stereo pairs from playback and use them to realign cameras using 50% overlays during preview.
The SI-3D delivers film like image quality which can be instantly edited, without the need for proxy conversion or ingestion. The camera outputs dual video streams for independent Left/Right or Stereo Mixed displays and records directly to a single stereo QuickTime file along with 3D LUT color and convergence metadata all on Inition’s small form-factor field recorder. The recorded files can be edited directly in Apple Final Cut Pro 7 with CineForm’s Neo-3D and post processed with Iridas FrameCycler and Speedgrade XR. These tools also enable conversion to Apple ProRes 422/444 and AVID DNxHD.
The SI-3D is being demonstrated at the IBC on Inition's stand 4.B75 along with stereoscopic rigs, monitors and broadcast processors – everything needed to deliver cost effective shooting, production and delivery of 3D content. Inition is offering a SI-3D rental package complete with turnkey services, experienced crew and training.
