(Hayward, California--November 4, 2009) Wohler Technologies Inc. today announced that Oriole Park at Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles™, is using a variety of Wohler monitoring gear within its newly installed HD digital production system.
The ballpark's upgraded facilities originate HD programming for new HD LED video displays and generate two HD channels for the in-house cable system. Installed in the scoreboard control room, Wohler audio and video monitoring systems enable convenient monitoring and QC of signals including the PA feed to the seating bowl, as well as program and effects audio to the home TV truck and home radio broadcast booth.
"With our HD upgrade, baseball fans at Oriole Park today enjoy both the latest scoreboard technology and the classic, intimate atmosphere of a traditionally designed ballpark," said Vince Steier, technical manager for the Maryland Stadium Authority, which operates Oriole Park at Camden Yards. "Our HD upgrade resulted in a dramatic improvement in audio and video here at the park, and Wohler's monitoring equipment plays a critical role in ensuring the quality of the fan experience."
At three operator stations, Wohler's 1RU ARS-22B source selectors provide 10 stereo inputs, allowing each user to build a custom mix of sound for monitoring of multiple sources at once. Five AMP1A-LP stereo audio monitors, occupying just 1RU, are used around the plant for quick confidence monitoring. At the master QC station, the 2RU AMP2-V2DA enables the user to listen to two channels and monitor up to four simultaneously. The unit conveniently supports switching among the room's analog and digital sources, as well as building of custom mixes for monitoring. By supporting analog and digital monitoring from the same place, the Wohler audio monitors give operators the flexibility to multitask and run the control room with efficiency.
Wohler systems also provide high-quality video monitoring within the ballpark's control room. A 9-inch HDMON-90WS production-grade HD color video monitor is employed at a secondary QC position, meeting the operator's need for rapid switching between dual inputs. The compact monitor fits neatly on the desktop and can be positioned differently depending on the demands of the workflow.
Newington, Va.-based Communications Engineering Inc. (CEI) supplied and installed the Wohler gear at Oriole Park.
