Rohde & Schwarz Teams with Hollywood HEART to Teach Filmmaking Skills to At-Risk Youth
May “Shooting Stars” workshop will provide teens an opportunity to learn from industry pros; teen-produced films to be given a red carpet screening in June.
At-risk teens from across Los Angeles will learn filmmaking skills from Hollywood professionals as part of a unique two-day workshop sponsored by Burbank-based Rohde & Schwarz DVS and the nonprofit organization Hollywood HEART. Teens will receive training from industry veterans in cinematography, screenwriting, acting, editing and sound in the “Shooting Stars” workshop scheduled for May 4th and 5th. The event will yield three to four short films that will be showcased at a red carpet theater screening on June 6th.

Codex recorders capture stereo streams from paired Arri Alexa cameras used to shoot the 3D movie.
Codex technology occupied a key position in a groundbreaking 3D workflow used in the production of Life of Pi, the new, epic adventure film from 20th Century Fox and Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee. Codex recorders were used on the set to capture dual streams of data from pairs of Arri Alexa cameras used to shoot the movie. Additionally, Codex digital laboratory systems were employed near-set to manage and back-up the enormous amount of data generated by the stereo production.

Lightstorm Entertainment uses multiple CLIPSTER/FUZE digital cinema mastering systems in Los Angeles, Malibu and Sydney to playback and review uncompressed stereo media with unprecedented speed and flexibility.
Before sailing back into theaters, newly and spectacularly rendered in 3D, Titanic went through final inspection via leading edge digital mastering and stereoscopic technology from DVS. Director James Cameron and his team from Lightstorm Entertainment used DVS’s CLIPSTER® and FUZE systems to review scenes from the movie in stereo as it was undergoing the 3D conversion process. CLIPSTER and FUZE facilitated the playback of uncompressed (2K) media in stereo allowing Cameron to view the film on a big screen in precisely the same form as audiences will see it in cinemas.
