The ceremony will take place on November 29 at the Portland Hilton Downtown, where the convention runs from Nov 28 to Dec 1.

Robert Gitt to Receive Silver Light Award for Lifetime Achievement
The Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) will present four awards in recognition of work by individuals in the areas of archiving and preservation on November 30, during the AMIA Annual Conference in New Orleans. This year’s recipients include Robert Gitt, founder of the UCLA Film & Television Archive's Preservation Department, for the Silver Light Award; Chapin Cutler, co-owner of Boston and Light & Sound (BLS), for the Spotlight Award; Regina Longo, founder and leader of the Albanian Cinema Project (ACP), for the Alan Stark Award; and Moriah Ulinskas, longtime chair of the AMIA Diversity Committee, with the William S. O’Farrell Volunteer Award.

The Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) announces that Dennis Doros, co-owner of Milestone Films, has been elected president of the international association by AMIA members. Doros will be inducted into office at the annual AMIA Conference in New Orleans (Nov. 29 – Dec. 2), when he will begin a two-year term. He succeeds Andrea Kalas, who has led the organization forward for the past two years.

The Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) will bring new breadth and depth to the discussion about the complexities of moving image preservation and access by focusing on the need for diversity in every aspect of the field. Not only through panels, but in a special day devoted to the diverse collections in Pittsburgh that is open to the public, AMIA leads the way in making film preservation tangible and relevant. From Nov. 8-12 at the Omni William Penn Hotel, over 600 professionals and supporters will gather to set new standards of involvement and collaboration through the most recent developments in archival technology, sustainable ways of preserving film, and the simple tools being used to save some of the most at-risk moving images around the world.

The Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) and Alamo Drafthouse, in partnership with The Film Foundation, will host a three-day film projection workshop offering expert-led training for managers, curators and projectionists in the proper presenting of 35mm film in theaters. The hands-on, educational event will be held August 22-24 in Austin, Texas, at the Alamo South Lamar location. Additional partners supporting the symposium include Kodak and Boston Light & Sound.
