SMPTE Raises More Than $66K in Crowdfunding Campaign in Support
Individual Donations Come From Around the World; Corporate Sponsors Include Ad-ID, Alliance Video and Post Inc., Blackmagic Design, Canon, Codex Digital, DSC Labs, Ewing-Foley Inc., FotoKem, Image Matters, IMAX, Maxell, Modern VideoFilm, Signiant, and Sundog Media Toolkit
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers(R) , the worldwide leader in motion-imaging standards and education for the communications, media, entertainment, and technology industries, has successfully completed a 60-day crowdfunding campaign for its "Moving Images" documentary, with a total of $66,382 raised on Indiegogo and additional funds donated directly to the Society. SMPTE's "Moving Images" is currently ranked as the seventh most funded verified nonprofit film project on Indiegogo. The growing list of corporate sponsors for the project includes Ad-ID, Alliance Video and Post Inc., Blackmagic Design, Canon, Codex Digital, DSC Labs, Ewing-Foley Inc., FotoKem, Image Matters, IMAX, Maxell, Modern VideoFilm, Signiant, and Sundog Media Toolkit.

IBC2014 Preview, Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers® (SMPTE®)

Technical Sessions, SMPTE members will lead a variety of sessions during the IBC2014 exhibition. The Society will offer "Laser Projectors Part 1: Seeing is Believing" and "Laser Projectors Part 2: Is the Devil in the Details?" as part of the IBC Big Screen Experience. Produced and chaired by Peter Ludé, past president of SMPTE, the session will address the impact of laser projection technology on digital cinema and provide a look at breathtaking images shown on the Big Screen Experience's 6-Primary laser projection system from Christie.

SMPTE will present the session "Beyond HD: The Technology Landscape for Future Broadcasting" at IBC2013. On Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. in room E102, Dr. Hans Hoffmann of the EBU will convene this session on the current state of ultra-high definition television (UHDTV). Experts from leading media companies and technology suppliers will provide a practical, real-world view of the technology ecosystem, as well as a look at the future roadmap for UHDTV. Highlights will include an extensive review of the definition of UHD, the publication of the SMPTE UHDTV Study Group report, and lessons learned from groundbreaking UHDTV work done at the 2013 Wimbledon Tennis Championship and Confederation Cup. The session will close with an interactive panel discussion — joined by representatives from Panasonic Europe, Samsung, Sony, Disney, the BBC, Sky Germany, Sky TV UK, and NBC Universal — on the opportunities and barriers to full deployment of UHDTV.
