"The Trials of Muhammad Ali" Wins ABCNEWS VideoSource Award for Best Footage Use
The 2013 ABCNEWS VideoSource Award went to" The Trials of Muhammad Ali." Produced by Kartemquin Films, the doc uses rare and newly discovered archival footage to tell the story of Ali’s struggle to stand up for his spiritual convictions and political conscience, regardless of the cost to his boxing career.
ABCNEWS VideoSource, the news and stock footage licensing arm of ABC News, announced that "The Trials of Muhammad Ali" was the winner of the 2013 ABCNEWS VideoSource Award. Directed by Academy Award-nominated director Bill Siegel, "The Trials of Muhammad Ali" examines Ali’s life outside of boxing, focusing on the years 1967 to 1970, when, after refusing military induction, he was stripped of his heavyweight title and banned from boxing. "The Trials of Muhammad Ali" was honored at the IDA Awards Gala, which took place on December 6, 2013 in Los Angeles.

On hand to see the screening were the late critic’s wife Chaz Ebert, Director Steve James, Actress Yael Stone (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK), Director Alex Ross Perry, and indie actress Kate Lyn Shiel along with noted film critic A.O. Scott (The New York Times) who conducted a Q&A with Chaz, Steve and filmmaker Rahmin Bahrani. The NYC screening was held hot on the heels of a buzzy showing in Sundance.
