Today, the Visual Effects Society (VES), the industry’s global professional honorary society, announced its inaugural inductees to the VES Hall of Fame. In concert with the Society’s milestone 20th Anniversary, the VES Board of Directors created the VES Hall of Fame – a new honor to recognize exemplary individuals that came before us and upon whose shoulders we proudly stand. This distinction is being bestowed upon a select group of professionals and pioneers who have played a significant role in advancing the field of visual effects by invention, science, contribution or avocation of the art, science, technology and/or communications.

Blackmagic Design today announced that its URSA Mini Pro digital film camera was used by video production company Ice Cream Entertainment LLC to shoot an ad campaign for Big Red soda. DaVinci Resolve Studio was also used to edit, grade and finish the spots by brothers Andrew and Nate Garcia, who own and operate the production company.

Director Martin Bell Revisits "TINY" with Nice Shoes Colorist Chris RyanThe story of "Tiny" Erin Blackwell, spans over thirty years, with much of it having been documented by filmmakers Martin Bell and the late Mary Ellen Mark, first in their 1984 documentary, Streetwise, in a 2004 follow-up Erin, and again in their new film, TINY: The Life of Erin Blackwell. Nice Shoes colorist Chris Ryan graded the film with Bell, with whom he has worked on many projects, including documentaries Twins (2003), Alexander (2006), Prom (2010), as well as a series of short films for Novartis in 2013. Together, Bell and Ryan sought to establish a visual continuity between TINY and Streetwise, bringing together the looks of previously unseen 16mm footage along with recently captured digital footage. The film made its world premiere in the city where both films were shot, at the Seattle International Film Festival, and will make its East Coast debut as part of BAM Cinemafest on June 25th.

When Two Worlds Collide, winner of the World Cinema documentary prize for Best First Feature at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, focuses on the alarming and sad conflict between indigenous people of the Peruvian rainforest and corporations bent on exploiting the region through mining, drilling and clear cutting. First time directors Heidi Brandenburg Sierralta and Matthew Orzel tell the story of a local leader, forced into exile for resisting the destruction of Amazonian land, and shed light on a crisis that has implications for the entire world. The film screens this month in DC as part of AFI film festival and will have its World theatrical premiere at Film Forum in New York City on August 17, released by First Run Features.
