Cutting Edge Turns Out “Powers” VFX with Two Synched Render Farms and Qube!
Australian Sites Chop Render Hours on Marvel Project with Single Submission Tools and Detailed Log Tracking
When many studios are limited to one facility and a small bank of computers, Australia’s Cutting Edge was sitting on a gold mine – two big VFX studios and all the hardware that came with them. To create that bridge, the team invested in PipelineFX’s Qube!, a render farm management tool tailored to the needs of big VFX projects.

A Beautiful Pigeon Steals the Show in Jet Blue's "Recurring Dream"
SOAR HIGH ABOVE THE CITY WITH A BLISSFUL BIRD IN JET BLUE’S NEW AD FROM MULLEN LOWE, SMUGGLER’S BRIAN BELETIC & MPC LA
In this Cinderella story, a pigeon dreams he is a graceful flyer joyously perusing the city from high above instead of from his usual lot on crowded sidewalks, dodging the feet of annoyed pedestrians. The beautiful star of Jet Blue’s “Recurring Dream” is a photo-real CG pigeon who reflects contentedly about the joys of flying in style, including perks like room to stretch out, having all amenities within reach and enjoying a welcoming environment. That story, very much an analogy for the perks of flying Jet Blue, was directed by Smuggler’s Brian Beletic who does fine work putting viewers shotgun for an aerial adventure, which even includes a flight pattern over a giant bird seed fountain. Working closely with Beletic and Jet Blue agency Mullen Lowe, MPC’s team created the happy flyer and crafted his seamless integration into the commercial’s clever story.

"Southpaw": Sound Artists from Sony Pictures Post Production
"Southpaw": Sound Artists from Sony Pictures Post ProductionOne of Hollywood’s most gifted action directors, Antoine Fuqua explores the rarified violence of the boxing ring in his latest film Southpaw, released this month by The Weinstein Company. The film traces the rise, fall and redemptive resurrection of Billy Hope (Jake Gyllenhaal), a talented but troubled fighter who grew up an orphan in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen. A boxer himself since his youth in Pittsburgh, Fuqua delivers fight sequences that are both brutal and thrilling. He places the audience directly inside the ring—and sometimes inside Hope’s head—allowing them to experience the action from the perspective of the fighters themselves.
