Nine Mile Circle’ Les Umberger Directs Wrestler Ric Flair in Hilarious Campaign for U.S. Auto SalesWrestling legend Ric Flair stars as an over the top used car salesman in a new campaign for Georgia-based USAuto Sales. Atlanta creative boutique Nine Mile Circle produced and finished the three spots in which the 67-year-old strongman, known as “Nature Boy,” plays the flimflamming proprietor of Papa Flair’s Used Cars. In one, Flair boasts “we’re body slammin’ prices into the ground,” and then proceeds to dish out the same treatment to his hapless customers. US Auto Sales is offered as an alternative for people who’d rather avoid the arm twisting and stereotypical badgering from a shady used car dealer.

The :60 spots feature sharply contrasting storylines and approaches to educating two high-risk demographics about the dangers of sun exposure and skin cancer: “Looking Good” targets men over 50 using a comedic scenario to communicate a strategy for early detection, while “Arms” tailors its message about prevention to young women between 14 and 18, using a touching story to educate them about the risks of tanning. HY Connect called upon the Chicago-based editorial and post boutique’s editor, Tom Pastorelle, to weave the footage into engaging vignettes that draw viewers into their stories and drive home these potentially life-saving messages.

The quick cuts underscore the band’s frenetic energy, weaving together live concert footage from their 2015 tour with shots of their behind-the-scenes antics. To achieve the final cut, Simpson had to carefully re-time footage of multiple tour performances of “My Head Hurts” so that the tempo matched the album cut of the song. From there, he could weave shots from various tour dates together seamlessly. Simpson worked closely with Wagner to identify the footage that best reflected the band’s vitality, and to achieve a balanced juxtaposition of onstage and offstage material.
