(Markham, Ontario--September 28, 2010) Digital Rapids, the leading provider of tools and solutions for bringing television, movie and Web content to wider audiences, announced today that the company's StreamZHD Live ABR adaptive streaming encoder has been honored with two prestigious industry awards.
StreamZHD Live ABR was honored with the CSI Award for 'Best Web TV Technology or Service' and a TV Technology Europe Superior Technology (STAR) Award. The awards were presented during the IBC Conference and Exhibition in Amsterdam.
The CSI Awards, now in their eighth year, are regarded as one of the most competitive and comprehensive technology awards, rewarding excellence in the cable, satellite, terrestrial broadcasting and IPTV sectors. Organized by CSI magazine (formerly known as Cable & Satellite International), the awards are judged independently of CSI by a panel of experts that includes practicing and former heads of engineering and operations from some of the world's most important network operators; well-respected consultants; and senior industry analysts.
Unveiled for the first time at IBC, new models of StreamZHD Live ABR featuring Digital Rapids' new Flux hardware platform were honored with a TV Technology Europe STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award. The STAR Award is designed to celebrate and showcase the preeminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. TV Technology Europe's editors and writers reviewed a variety of products, examined the technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry, and then chose the winners.
"We're thrilled that StreamZHD Live ABR has been recognized with these two prestigious honors," said Darren Gallipeau, Product Manager at Digital Rapids. "Combining the benefits of adaptive streaming with the proven quality, reliability and versatility of our StreamZ Live encoder family, StreamZHD Live ABR is the ideal live streaming platform to help content owners and service providers deliver superior Internet TV and mobile viewing experiences."
StreamZHD Live ABR encodes and streams live HD and SD content with superior quality and performance for delivery through the latest generation of adaptive streaming technologies. Adaptive bit rate streaming enables higher-quality viewing experiences with television-like continuity and reliability on the Web and mobile devices. As content is delivered to each viewer, the chosen adaptive delivery technology automatically switches between multiple output streams based on the viewer's current network and playback conditions, delivering the best possible quality at any given time even under dramatically changing conditions.
Building on Digital Rapids' long-standing simultaneous output abilities, StreamZHD Live ABR can create all of the multiple output streams required for adaptive bit rate delivery in a single system. StreamZHD Live ABR supports adaptive streaming technologies including HTTP Dynamic Streaming and RTMP Dynamic Streaming to Adobe® Flash®; adaptive HTTP streaming to Apple® iPhone® and iPad®; and Microsoft® IIS Smooth Streaming. Multiple StreamZHD Live ABR encoders can be combined with the scalable Digital Rapids Broadcast Manager software for enterprise-class management, automation, scheduling, multi-channel monitoring and failover.
