(ST. PETERSBURG, FL, July 18, 2005) The City of St. Petersburg selected a HANABI HVS-1000HS HD/SD video switcher from FOR-A for its city government television station, WSPF-TV. The HVS-1000HS, a one M/E switcher that supports the 1080i, 24p, 720p, and standard definition formats, will be used in conjunction with a four-camera robotic system for the live broadcast of St. Petersburg City Council and other meetings.

WSPF-TV, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and annually produces an average of 420 hours of original programming, has procured the HANABI HVS-1000HS as part of a planned upgrade from analog to digital operations. For the time being, the transition will only pertain to live meetings from the City Council chamber.

The switcher is located in the WSPF-TV master control area. It's being used to cover 10 live government meetings per month, including City Council meetings. It switches between four digital robotic cameras and signals from a video projection unit, document stand camera, and desktop and laptop PCs.

“When it comes to making the transition to digital, the HANABI HVS-1000HS is the perfect switcher for small television operations such as WSPF-TV,” said Bob Peterson, Southeast Region Sales Engineer, FOR-A Corporation of America. “It offers them both standard and high definition capability, eight standard video inputs, 10-bit, 4:2:2:4 digital component processing, and a compact, 2RU size—all at about half the price of similarly configured switchers.”

The HANABI HVS-1000HS is a one M/E switcher that supports 1080/60i, 59.94i, 50i, 24p, 24sF, 23.98p, 23.98sF 720/60p, 59.94p, (Selectable at menu) (Other formats will be released)  and standard definition formats. The main unit can be equipped with a wide range of features, including a redundant power supply, DVE board, multiple keyer boards (internal Chroma key function), and color correction board. The body is compact in size (EIA 2RU). In addition 3-dimensional DVEs using a polygon system are also available. Optional color correction functions can be installed in the primary and keyer. Process control, gamma corrections and various clip functions are all available.
