(TEWKSBURY, Mass.--BUSINESS WIRE--Sept. 21, 2005) Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID) today announced that Radio Caracas Television (RCTV), Venezuela, has purchased and installed more than a $1M Avid® end-to-end digital newsroom solution for editing, sharing, storing, and managing media.

The initial purchase, which took place in March of this year, was part of RCTV's plan to build a brand new facility for producing news in an all-digital production environment. On July 18, 2005, RCTV went live with the new environment, making it the first tapeless end-to-end digital newsroom to go on-air in Venezuela.

"We've been on the air with our new Avid environment for almost two months, and we are very impressed with how smooth and cohesive the systems are working. The entire environment was installed on schedule, making our transition to tapeless news production a great success," said Edgardo Mosca, vice president of RCTV. "Avid's end-to-end workflow is a cornerstone in our new facility and gives us a phenomenal boost to our efficiency. We're able to save time and money throughout the production process, and maintain a high level of quality in our news bulletins. Executing a change of this magnitude comes with its share of uncertainties, but with Avid as our technology partner, the transition has gone flawlessly."

In constructing its new production facility, RCTV upgraded its older Newstar systems to the Avid iNEWS® newsroom automation solution with the iNEWS ControlAir™ system, and added 15 Avid NewsCutter® XP systems, five of which use Avid Mojo™; 13 AirSpeed™ servers, which will be used for ingest and playout; and an Avid Unity™ for News system with MediaManager, including 2.88 TB of storage for managing and sharing media assets. RCTV uses the systems in three studios within its news production center.

"RCTV's installation represents the first tapeless end-to-end digital newsroom to go on-air in Venezuela, and we are pleased to have played a key role in this important transition," said Sergio Castillo, regional and strategic account manager, Latin America, for Avid. "RCTV has embraced the advantages of digital news production technology and workflows, and we are confident that other broadcasters in this region will follow."
