(Colorado Springs, CO, January 3, 2006) The wait is over! Convergent Design is pleased to announce their highly anticipated, award-winning, HD-Connect LE converter is now shipping worldwide.

"The HD-Connect LE was extremely well received at NAB and IBC, winning numerous awards,” said Michael Schell, President of Convergent Design. "HD-Connect LE is truly the missing connection in HDV, by providing editors and broadcasters a simple and cost-effective means to convert HDV into uncompressed formats for editing and transmission.”

Broadcast Engineering Magazine awarded Convergent Design its coveted “Pick Hit” award for the HD-Connect LE converter box at the IBC show in September 2005. The HD-Connect product family has also received the prestigious “Vidy” Award (Videography Magazine), and the “Top Innovation” award (Television Broadcast Magazine) at NAB in 2005.

HD-Connect LE features HDV to HD/SD-SDI conversion with simultaneous SDI (with embedded audio and time-code), AES, LTC and analog component outputs. This portable (4” x 5” x 1.5” / 108 x 127 x 38 mm) converter also features RS422 to 1394 deck control conversion, enabling users to control an HDV deck or camcorder from an RS-422 based editing system.

Unique features include HD or SD video as well as ASI (MPEG2 over SDI) output. Cross conversion of 1080i to 720p is also supported. Users can simply select the desired video output format and the box will automatically scale and/or cross convert appropriately. (Supported HDV input formats include: 720p30, 720p25, 720p24, 1080i50, and 1080i60. Output formats include: 720p60, 720p50, 1080i50, 1080i60, 576i50, and 480i60).

Broadcasters can use the HD-Connect LE to transmit an HDV (MPEG2) stream directly to a satellite uplink via the ASI output. Coax cable connections up to 300 meters in length allow for remote location of the HDV camcorder from the uplink.

Native HDV editors can now shoot or edit in HDV and output to all formats: BetaCam, DigiBeta, HD-Cam, or DVCPro HD (via component, SD-SDI or HD-SDI) with 1394 to RS-422 deck control. HD/SD-SDI based editors, on the other hand, can seamlessly ingest HDV material into their editing systems with full deck control including time code captures.

For about the same cost as a component to HD-SDI converter, audio converter and LANC deck control combo, this versatile box provides digitally loss-less (no D/A and A/D) conversion of video, audio and time code in one convenient package. Integrated tape-deck control, cross/down conversion and guaranteed audio/video sync further enhances its’ value over a “roll-your-own” solution.
