(NAB, Las Vegas, NV, USA – May 3, 2006) At NAB, Blackmagic Design announced Multibridge Pro, their newest breakout box-based HD/SD editing solution with PCI Express.
Multibridge Pro is a robust PCI Express break-out box style editing solution that instantly transforms into a standalone converter when disconnected from the computer. This functionally is possible because of the unique PCI Express cable connection used by the Multibridge family of products for connecting to Mac OS X or Windows XP computers. This allows all the electronics to be built into the break-out box, creating a much more useful and intelligent solution.
Following on from the success of Multibridge Extreme, Multibridge Pro is specifically designed for customers who don't need the high performance 2K resolution film editing features, but do require specific connections more focused on the needs of broadcast and high end HD and SD post production, while being more affordable.
Multibridge Pro switches between HD and SD video, and features an SD/HD-SDI input, and two SD/HD-SDI outputs. Multibridge Pro also includes 12 bit analog video in, and incredible 14 bit analog to digital video conversion out. The analog video connections can be independently switched to component (YUV), composite NTSC/PAL and S-Video. When using component (YUV) video, the analog connections will switch between HD and SD allowing connection to HDV cameras, or analog decks such as Betacam SP.
For audio, 2 channels of analog balanced professional audio in and out via XLR connectors are included, as well as 4 channels of AES/EBU digital audio in and out with each input featuring sample-rate converters. Multibridge Pro also features 2 channel unbalanced audio out for HiFi monitoring, and is a compact 1 rack unit in size.
Multibridge Pro also includes a built-in HDMI digital monitoring output. HDMI is becoming popular on most modern flat screen televisions and video projectors. Its quality specifications allow up to 12 bit at full HD resolution for a very high quality built-in digital video monitoring solution. The HDMI digital output allows a wider range of lower cost HD monitoring options, and because it's digital, the image quality is completely noise free, and amazing quality.
“Blackmagic continues to respond to its broadcast and post production customers who need an affordable and versatile converter and capture/playback solution with connections specifically selected for their needs,” remarked Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “Broadcasters and editors require leading-edge engineering standards with the highest level of reliability and quality. Multibridge Pro is the right choice for broadcasters and editors working in television as well as engineers who demand a full featured and reliable conversion solution for the broadcast environment.”
When connected to a computer via PCI Express 4 lane, Multibridge Pro allows full capture and playback with video and audio inputs and outputs becoming capture inputs, and playback outputs. Blackmagic Design drivers are included for compatibility with the most popular editing and compositing software available, including Apple Final Cut Pro HD, Adobe Premiere Pro 2, Apple Shake, Adobe Photoshop with custom plugins, Adobe After Effects, Discreet Combustion and many more.
When PCI Express is not connected, Multibridge Pro works as a standalone video and audio conversion solution, switchable between HD and SD, with SDI to analog and analog to SDI conversion operating completely independently. SDI audio is de-embedded and output on audio outputs, while audio inputs can be embedded into SDI video outputs.
Availability and Price
Multibridge Pro retails for US$1,595, and will be available May15 from authorized Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide.
