(Singapore - 27 June 2006) CG Overdrive Festival 2006 will kick off in Singapore at the Singapore Expo from 14 – 16 July 2006, presenting a specially curated program to showcase the best digital works at the Digital Film Screenings and Digital Art Gallery.

The Digital Film Screenings will be anchored by three Programs – Festival Selections, Festival Focus and Festival MV - screening films of fresh new talents showcased alongside those from celebrated directors, animators and CG artists.

Festival Selections is the result of a global search for the most outstanding and innovative animated films and digital artwork. The collection of 15 exceptional works handpicked by the esteemed panel of judges from an overwhelming 400 submissions from all over the world will be showcased exclusively at CG Overdrive. Look out for the digital short film by Swiss independent filmmaker Richard Vaucher, ‘A Barbaric Tale’, which follows a Barbarian through a journey of self-discovery, venturing into the realm of dragon fantasy to conquer his inner fears.

Festival Focus comprises of highly acclaimed works by some of the finest creators in the CG industry. A dazzling collection of digital short films in varying style, Festival Focus will feature celebrated works including ‘One Man Band’, ‘Geri’s Game’ and ‘For The Birds’ from PIXAR Animation Studios, popular Japanese animation titles such as ‘Mr Digital Tokoro’, ‘Genki Genki Nontan’ and ‘Samuroid Zero’ from Polygon Pictures as well as thriller ‘Delivery’ (Best first film, ANNECY 2006) by German CG director Till Nowak.

CG Overdrive is also proud to announce the World Premiere of the short film ‘Jinniku no umarekawari’ by Italian VFX director Alessandro Pacciani. Heavily influenced by the Japanese sub-culture, ‘Jinniku’ is an abstract project that explores the distorting journey of the mind deep within the human shell. More a modern artwork than a film, ‘Jinniku’ is a visual poetry of reshaped human flesh combined with electronic music and oriental philosophies. Alessandro Pacciani, the only Italian director finalist at the worldwide prestigious “Hollywood International Film Festival”, with famous film-makers like George Lucas, Quentin Tarantino, Steven Spielberg, is excited to debut ‘Jinniku no umarekawari’ at CG Overdrive’s Festival Focus screenings.

Festival MV is a collection of the most creative music videos presented by IdN. Titled ‘VisualRocks’, the screening takes you to the heart of the music video, with in-depth interviews with 19 of the world’s top production companies, who have produced inspirational music videos for the likes of Coldplay, Beck, Gwen Stefani and Bright Eyes.

Complementing the screenings is the Digital Art Gallery, a special showcase of 15 masterly created works of digital art with the theme of ‘Fantasy’. From artist Aaron Sng’s ‘Paladin and the Demon’ depicting lady warrior Paladin fighting an enraged demon, to Benjamin Leitgeb’s ‘Arcadia’ with a crashed aircraft in the deserted field portraying the state of stranded helplessness, the international selection of digital artwork illustrates the utilization of technology to explore new techniques of artistic expression.

Digital Film Screenings and Digital Art Gallery at CG Overdrive Festival is located at Foyer 1, Singapore Expo from 14 – 16 July 2006 from 9am to 7pm daily. Admission is free. Seating for the screenings is on a first-come, first-served basis and program schedule is online at
