GMA Network Philippines Expands International Channel with Harris H-Class


Part of major expansion strategy by broadcaster now reaching more than 12 million viewers

(SYDNEY, Australia, November 22, 2006) Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today announced that it supplied and installed an upgrade to the Harris® H-Class™ D-Series™ Playout Automation application at GMA Network, one of the Philippines’ leading broadcasters, in support of its expanding international channel, GMA Pinoy. Initially launched in Japan, the United States, Guam, Malaysia and the Middle East, GMA Pinoy now has a base of more than 100,000 subscribers.

In order to facilitate its expansion plans and enhance its programming capabilities, GMA Network recently reshaped and revamped its operations to encompass leading-edge technology from Harris.

“As we celebrated GMA Network’s 56-year anniversary, we wanted to enhance our product offering and improve our ability to reach Filipinos all over the world,” said Jay V. Fuentes, assistant vice president for the Technical Operations Center and On-Air Operations Division at GMA Network. “When we decided to expand our international channel, ensuring we had the right automation was a critical element of the necessary upgrades. After our assessment, we concluded that upgrading our D-Series Playout Automation application was the best solution, as it has proven to be highly flexible and reliable, and it met all our expansion criteria. We also are satisfied with the support Harris has provided throughout our expansion.”

Designed as a mission-critical automation solution for direct-to-home satellite delivery services platforms, cable multiple system operators, and global and national commercial TV networks, the D-Series Playout Automation application emphasizes workflow efficiency coupled with the highest levels of system resilience. With complete scalability and redundancy, the D-Series Playout Automation application allows stations to manage complex, multichannel operations, while employing a small staff. If required, the D-Series Playout Automation application’s exceptional scalability would allow GMA to expand up to 1,000 channels. In addition, D-Series™ customers can reconfigure and upgrade their systems while remaining "on air."
