(VANCOUVER, B.C., JULY 17, 2007) As a leading provider of video production services and equipment rentals to the motion picture and broadcast industries, Image Pacific has taken delivery of a custom HD flight pack in order to better serve the growing HD production demands of its discriminating clientele. |
The HD flight pack is the first of its kind to be engineered by Sony Broadcast and Communications Solutions Group in Canada. It includes four Sony HDC-1550 multi-format HDTV cameras with four Fujinon ENG/EFP HDTV lenses: the HA13x4.5BERM super wide angle lens; HA16x6.3BERM wide-angle ENG lens; HA18x7.6BERM standard ENG style lens; and the HA22x7.8BERM HD telephoto lens. It also includes one FOR-A HANABI HVS-1000HS HD/SD production switcher with all options included and three FOR-A FA-9000 HD/SD signal processors.
The HD flight pack also includes four Sony HDW-1800 HDCAM decks, an EVS HD broadcast server and a 42-inch Sony HD LCD panel with multiple program/preview viewer display - all of which packs up into 10 portable cases.
"The choice of Fujinon lenses for our HD Flight Pack is critical to our ability to meet the needs of any production situation and satisfy our clients' shooting requirements. Fujinon lenses have superior optics, engineering, and digital features. They're extremely rugged and reliable, and produce stunning, breathtaking, HD pictures regardless of the conditions under which we're shooting. We've also come to know Fujinon as a very responsive, customer service-oriented company," said Dale Rechner, national operations manager for Image Pacific Broadcast Rentals, in Vancouver, and Image Central Broadcast Rentals, in Toronto.
"Our experience with FOR-A has been similarly reliable and customer-focused," Rechner continued. "FOR-A's HVS-1000HS has quickly become the industry-standard as the go-to compact switcher for HD flypacks. The FA-9000's are ideal for any kind of conversion, and the processors support all formats. With a rental operation like ours, you never know what format you'll receive and what kind of signal type or format conversion will be needed. The FA-9000 has proven to be an invaluable tool."
Image Central Broadcast Rentals, which is managed by Local Operations Manager Anthony Sacco, provides full SD and HD broadcast facilities to the company's eastern-based clients. Both companies are owned by Image Pacific Communications, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, which is a production company led by company President Roger Williams, who has two decades of Director of Photography (DP) experience.
Image Pacific already owned one Fujinon HA16x6.3HD lens before buying the four new lenses for the HD flight pack. In June 2006, Fujinon sales representative Stosh Durbacz loaned Williams and Rechner an HA16x6.3 HD lens so that they could test it out while shooting video featurettes and player profiles for the Canadian Football League - during a very demanding two-week production schedule at various locations across Canada.
"Roger Williams was so impressed with the lens that when he came back, we walked away immediately with our first Fujinon HD lens," said Rechner. Based on their initial positive experience with that lens, and the company's responsive customer service, Rechner said they did not hesitate to buy the four additional Fujinon lenses for the HD flight pack.
In 2008, Image Pacific plans to take delivery of a second HD Flight Pack, as well as a HD mobile truck that will carry eight to 10 Sony HD cameras and Fujinon HD lenses, including longer lens for sports and entertainment. The expansion is being done in anticipation of the growing demand for HD field production required by both the broadcast and movie industries shooting in Vancouver and Toronto and the increased video production needs that will likely arise when the Winter Olympic Games come to Vancouver in 2010. While its services span production and post production, Image Pacific has a unique specialty - producing "Behind the Scenes" video documentaries and featurettes for use as bonus materials on DVDs as well as within EPKs (Electronic Press Kits) designed to promote upcoming motion picture releases.
Image Pacific's extensive list of DVD/EPK production credits includes "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," shot in Vancouver last fall. Image Pacific's Vancouver and Toronto equipment rental operations do brisk business serving the many film productions that choose Vancouver and Toronto for their locations. Image Pacific also provides full-service production support to independent filmmakers, television producers, cable networks like CNN and the BBC, music and sports specials, as well as commercials.
