Bitcentral’s Precis end-to-end digital newsroom solution goes live at nine news broadcast stations in nine weeks; sweeps across country from Hawaii to Florida
(IRVINE, CALIF. – Oct. 25, 2007) Bitcentral Inc., a leading provider of news production, archiving and distribution solutions to local television stations, has fully installed and gone live with its revolutionary Precis end-to-end digital news production solution at nine TV stations in the last nine weeks.
The complete uprooting and conversion of the nine traditional news broadcast stations from tape to digital is unparalleled in frequency and thoroughness.
The following stations have gone live with the Precis solution between July 24 and October 20:
WAFF in Huntsville, AL
WLBT in Jackson, MS
KMOV in St. Louis, MO
WPTZ in Plattsburgh, NY
KHON in Honolulu, HI
KOHD in Bend, OR
WINK in Ft. Meyers, FL
WTMJ in Milwaukee, WI
WISE in Fort Wayne, IN
Bitcentral’s Precis, an innovation in digital news production systems, is a non-proprietary, fully turnkey play-to-air digital news management system. The all file-based workflow solution is browser based and highly scalable, with virtually no limits on the number of users that can access the system. The system delivers an integrated on-line archive with inexpensive commodity storage for SD or HD video content, as well as provides the stations with a complete “eco-system,” featuring full integration with iNews, ENPS and editing software of choice, including Canopus ® Edius, Sony ® Vegas, Adobe ® Premier Pro and Apple ® Final Cut Pro.
With all stations going live with Precis smoothly and according to schedule, all locations were converted from tape to complete digital automation within one week, and experienced no delays or setbacks.
“This effort marks a milestone in the capacity of Bitcentral to outperform our competitors in the marketplace,” said John King, Vice President of Engineering for Bitcentral. “The concept of bringing a new station and it's entire news editorial and production staff onto a system of this scope each and every week speaks volumes to our ability to serve our customers at a level unforeseen and unmatched in the broadcast business.”
In addition to providing Bitcentral solutions, the company’s exceptional support team served as one central point of contact for the entire newsroom, regardless of component brands to ensure the fluidity and effectiveness of the overall system.
”Other competing vendors approached us at WPTZ speaking of optimizing their own proprietary equipment,” explained Andrew Lombard, Director of Technology at Hearst-owned WPTZ in Plattsburgh, N.Y. “Bitcentral took an exact opposite approach – they asked me what I wanted, and they delivered. Their recommendations weren’t to necessarily purchase all of their components; they recommended components that would best suit our specific needs, regardless of brands. Their support is fantastic in that they are listening to your needs, not just trying to sell everything.”
In addition, although Bitcentral servers and archiving solutions will now initially operate on Hewlett Packard ® hardware, the company also provides the option of purchasing other hardware and storage solutions of choice according to specific needs, and supports full integration.
”The immense flexibility of the Precis system will allow us to maintain our archive online indefinitely,” added John Emmert, Director of Technology at WINK-TV in Ft. Myers, FL. “Instead of purchasing ultra-expensive robotic, digital tape offline archives for old materials, as well as paying an archivist to manage the mess, the Precis system allows us to purchase an unlimited amount of inexpensive storage as needed for the future. This ensures that the ease by which our newsroom runs on the Precis now, continues well into the future – easy and hassle free.”
