Consumer Demand for Higher Quality Content Positions Semaphore as the QC Tool of Choice for the Digital Media Market

(Raleigh, North Carolina--January 29, 2008) Inlet Technologies, the leader in advanced encoding solutions for new media, today announces the availability of the latest release of Semaphore™, Inlet’s quality control (QC) automation software. With the addition of MPEG-2 and Flash support, this release builds upon Semaphore’s solid foundation that already includes support of Windows Media, VC-1, and h.264 digital content.

As consumers demand higher-quality content on a greater variety of devices, the challenges of content preparation become significant: content must be multi-formatted, of high quality, and it must be manageable over a network. While MPEG-2 continues to hold a large market share for both DVD authoring and archiving, Flash has become an increasingly critical format for new digital media business models.

“Semaphore’s support of Flash and MPEG-2 formats provides even greater extensibility within the quality control workflow,” said Neal Page, Inlet president and CEO. “Developers can now validate all of their content using a single, automated quality control software program. This positions Semaphore to become the QC tool of choice within the digital media market.”

Semaphore 2.5 also allows users to decrease the overall process time associated with verifying video quality and adhering to encoding job specifications through the use of customized alerts and watch folder automation. A new audio alert signals whether the audio is too low (silence) or too high (clipping) without having to visually evaluate an entire file, frame-by-frame.

Additional features include:
  • Frame duration graph – allows users to easily spot timestamp or dropped frame issues in the source file
  • Open files by simply dragging/dropping on timeline
  • Quantization alert can be triggered by values above or below the quantization threshold
  • Key frame size alert added to detect Key Frames (I-frame) below a threshold size
  • File properties include audio/video codec descriptions from the ASF header

Semaphore is a robust software application that automates the QC process, letting users evaluate hours of content in minutes and break the QC bottleneck. Users can define and apply parameters for quality, bit rate, dropped frames or other metrics. Semaphore’s automatic alerts zero in on frames or scenes that fail to meet defined criteria, so users can identify trouble spots at a glance. Straightforward graphs, summary windows and reports provide comprehensive analysis of every frame. With one cost-effective solution users can increase control over content and eliminate hours of staring at the monitor.
