(San Francisco, California--February 20, 2008) Allegorithmic, an emerging 3D technology company developing advanced texturing tools for real-time 3D content creation, today announced its collaboration with Intel to optimize Substance, Allegorithmic’s new generation of texturing middleware, for the Intel® Core™2 Extreme quad-core processor family.
Designed to run on Intel® Streaming SIMD Extensions 4 (SSE4) Instruction Set Innovation and multi-core CPUs, Substance is redefining next-generation game development and game play by making it possible to stream up to 2-4 times more detailed texture data in real time without utilizing the GPU.
“With Substance running on Intel’s high performance processors, developers and players will no longer be limited by linear data storage or the erratic seeking and random access times of data from DVD,” said Dr. Sebastien Deguy, president and founder of Allegorithmic. “This combination removes cumbersome bandwidth barriers and makes it easier for developers and players to develop open world games and enrich the overall game-play experience, without impacting the frame rate of the game.”
Using Substance on Intel® SSE4-enabled processors will open infinite worlds for both developers and players when streaming detailed textures and datasets, especially for racing games, flight simulations and other games that feature large environments. Combining Substance’s real-time performance with the latest Intel processors significantly decreases load times and number of stalls during the execution of a game, making it possible for players to experience infinite open worlds that feature higher resolution textures, more dynamic sound and richer environments.
“Allegorithmic’s Substance demonstrates innovation that utilizes the performance of the Intel® Core™2 Extreme processor,” said Elliot Garbus, vice president and general manager, Visual Computing Software Division, Intel. “Intel processors enable richer experiences. The procedural approach behind Substance scales across on several threads, offering many new opportunities to game developers willing to push their creations to the next level.”
Substance is Allegorithmic’s new generation of middleware for authoring and generating high-quality dynamic textures in real-time for online and retail games. Designed to offer developers and players unprecedented visual quality and graphical detail, Substance makes it possible to increase texture definition by integrating weather dependant effects, visual post processes, on-the-fly decal generation, breakable environments and more during game play. Substance’s real-time performance allows for continuous texture streaming during the execution of a game without utilizing the GPU and is one of the most powerful solutions for streaming high-quality content and handling texture memory allocation for today’s next-generation of games.
Allegorithmic is demonstrating Substance for the first time at GDC 2008. For more information please visit Allegorithmic during the show, North Hall, booth #6533 or the company’s website at http://www.allegorithmic.com
