(Santa Monica, California--July 7, 2008) In a continuing effort to better service the evolving needs of the entertainment community in London, Ascent Media Group (AMG) has merged several of its UK-based companies and rebranded them under the name Ascent 142. The new name is a nod to the company’s iconic Film House address, 142 Wardour Street.
Ascent 142 will offer a full complement of feature film, television, DVD and content management services. The new facility is the culmination of the seamless merging of One Post, St. Anne’s Post, Stream and Wardour Street’s Media Management services.
In connection with the move, Ascent Media Group has invested more than $4 million in the Ascent 142 facilities, including the creation of two Digital Intermediate (DI) suites. The new DI suites feature two da Vinci Resolve® R350 digital mastering suites, two Autodesk Smokes, a Bright SAN, two ARRI film scanners and two ARRI film recorders. The Resolve R350s belong to da Vinci’s new family of powerful digital mastering suites unveiled at the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB).
Ascent 142 is an integrated facility where clients can obtain a service offering managed by one team. To accommodate the influx of creatives and equipment into the 60,000 square foot facility, a new production area has been built out and the existing reception area has been revamped.
“We are expanding our services under one roof to accommodate our growing business and our customers’ changing needs,” said David Barrett, Ascent 142’s Senior Director of Business Development. “We anticipate no redundancies and no change in the management structure. The merging of these companies into one new brand represents a clear and strategic business move that reflects the requirements of our clients. Our customers will now have one main point of contact for all of our services.”
Simon Constable, Vice President of Operations at Ascent 142, added, “The industry is going through a period of change. Our clients are seeing reductions in budgets and tightening of schedules, and they need help to meet these challenges. We offer a wide array of services within a single facility, a roster of very talented people, and a comprehensive project management offering to our customers. We believe this allows us to deliver quality work, on time, and within budget.”
“In the feature film area especially, it makes sense that all the services relevant to the workflow and data management are in one building,” added Adrian Bull, Chief Technology Officer for Ascent 142. The new DI workflow at Ascent 142 has been designed specifically to align with its US counterparts. “With so many more projects working internationally, we are perfectly positioned to work with our Santa Monica and Hollywood facilities. We now have a 2.5 gigabit pipe in place which allows grading information and other data to be securely shared between London and the US. The transatlantic divide is starting to disappear thanks to technology, and we provide a benefit no one else can offer.”
Quantum of Solace, the new Bond film, will be Ascent 142’s first DI project. The new facility intends to expand its high end DI work, as well as work with smaller, independent films. Ascent 142’s DI staff will include lead DI colorist Rob Pizzey and DI colorist Trevor Brown.
Barrett concluded: “At its heart, Ascent 142 will offer a great range of high quality options to our clients and will make the process as efficient as possible. People working with us through the transition are already finding that having feature film, television, DVD and content management services in the same place is making their lives much easier.”
